We need to offer DD2 alternatives to biting the bloody furniture

She's an Aspie, and has sensory issues.
She's quite oral, and goes around licking walls/me etc, but is also now taking chunks out of the bunkbed and chairs, and it's not really on.

We've been telling her not to do it (with no success really), but I reckon we'll make a lot more progress if we offer her an alternative?

one of those plastic teethers you give to little ones? (not the water filled ones though)

I was a chewer/biter as a child (furniture, clothes, pens and pencils), i still chew now but i stick to chewing drinking straws.

I was hoping there'd be something specially designed for this!

My dd did this -the rail round the bunkbed looked like a load of rats had been chewing it!

TBH, the chewies we got her didn't work, but she stopped doing it by herself in time. Good luck.

thanks for all the replies

rjoules - I'll let you know if we find something that works

siblingrivalry, it's bad news that chewies didn't help, good news she stopped of her own accord. How old was she when she stopped?

I'm wondering if I do more other non-oral sensory work with her she will need to do this less She likes massage, but it's hard to find the time

My son used to like to chew everything, but soft things, has ruined all my cushions, pillows, clothes, quilt covers etc. In the end just gave him towelling socks to chew. he only does it now if he is feeling agitated and upset so just go to husbands sock drawer and get out a pair for him to chew !!

My friend gets chewy dog toys from the pet shop for her DS who does the same, the plastic ones, obviously - not the bone flavoured ones!

They're designed to take a lot more abuse than chew toys for babies.
