Ed psych & cupboard love

DD2, hearing impaired/language problems, was assessed by ed psych today. Told she's bright (visual/spatial) but verbal/language scores low. So, she has a language problem (but we already know that). I asked if it was a delay or disorder, told it was up to SALT to decide. I replied that SALT had said it was up to Ed Psych to say...so we settled on disorder-of-some-type-undiagnosable-due-to-child-being-only-4.6". I shall henceforth refer to DD2's difficulty as dostudtcbof.

I didn't ask any questions really. I had just taken DD1 to the GP for her "daydreaming" episodes & was told poss absence seizures so refered to paediatrics, so i was was rather wobbly at the time

In the space of 1 year: DD2 diagnosed deaf with language problems, followed by DPs mental breakdown, followed by mum's stroke, now DD1.... testing times. I'm trying to keep strong but did find myself shut in a cupboard (!) today with a TA from DD1's class for a hug because i was weepy at school drop-off. Slightly embarrassed about that now as i'm usually the hugger not the hugged.

aww, kissingfrogs, you've had a lot on your plate, so the t.a.'s hug was very sweet.

it's really not on that the ed psych and the salt are passing the buck like that. i work with deaf kids and it makes me angry that additional language problems are not dealt with properly. it would be good if you could find a salt who had specialised in deafness and might be better placed to tease out what the issues are.

hoping things will start to improve for you and your family.

thanks raggedrobin, nice to hear from you again. Things have moved up a step regarding getting to the bottom of DD2's deaf/language problem.
Had a referal to a different hospital via a family friend (retired audiologist) to a wonderful lady who is a specialist in audiovestivular medicine. She is on a mission to find out the cause of DD2's language disorder to see if it is/is not related to deafness. She says that no-one can "label" DD2 because she's outside the box, but that's exactly why she's interested in her. I feel that DD2 is in good hands.

Ed psych said that DD2 will get language therapy with a specialist - how much/when will be decided before the next panel meeting. I'm wondering what the difference is between this and SALT?

that does sound promising, kissingfrogs.

i thought i had chatted to you on a thread before, but wasn't sure. sorry if i repeated myself... ds isn't the only one in our family with repetitive language, it seems!
