Bibic report

Has anyone else had any experience using their bibic report to get help in school?

My DS's report was very useful but school seem to be completely disinterested.

I gave it in a month ago and asked the teacher today about it and she said 'oh someone's got it somewhere'.....

It's not about BIBIC, it is about general report reading i.e. they don't do it, - not even the LA ones. A curious well meaning teacher might have a glimpse, but she'll put it down and go into the classroom forgetting all about it as soon as she utters her first word.

Huge and very common problem.
You need to call a meeting in which report is discussed, an action plan formulated and clear responsibilities and outcomes set out.

All of the recs in my bibic report were ignored too - they've had it for nearly a year! But we've had so many upheavals and other interventions within that time - AS dx, exclusions - that I had to pick my battles and let it drop for the time being. We are trying to get some of it put into the statement, and it was used by LA EP and paed when they wrote for stat assess, so it has been very useful. I wish I'd been more insistent about school implementing strategies now, the meeting sounds like a good idea.

Thanks. Is it something schools should look at as a matter of good practice or are they free to ignore things like that as it doesn't come from an 'official' source e.g. local NHS/LA?

Hi Debs, its not just school who dont read reports, no one seems to read them. I had CAMHS meeting just the other day and they told me they hadnt read any of the reports i hand delivered to them in preparation for the meeting. Its ridiculous!

The school were given copies of all reports for ds some 'official' and they stayed in a drawer in the SENCO's room, no one else has seen them.

I have a meeting at 10am today at the school and i plan to ask why the info in those reports hasnt been given to the staff who work with ds.

Someone on here told me it is in the SEN code of practice that it is the SENCO's responsibility to share all relevant info with staff, shame they dont have a time limit.
