Any experiences of tics or even tourettes?

I have posted a few times in the past about concerns regarding ds aged 6 behaviour. I have had concerns for probably a couple of years. It has been difficult to pinpoint the problem in the past. I would desribe him as away with the faires most of the time, if that makes sense. In some ways very intelligent(excellent reader) and other things he really doesnt get and socially awkward. No sense of danger. He spends most of his time spinning on the spot. Dark moods for no reason and uncontrolable tantrums that seem to come from no where. I could go on. However the last 3 maybe 4 months he has developed many tics, blowing on his arms and objects, head tics, shoulder tics, various hand movement, grinding his teeth, clearly his throat. The last two weeks he has also started repeating words several times, sometimes random words but mostly "one, two, three" over and over again. He also tries to hurt himself, scratching and hittng when he gets upset. Most of the time he is a very loving and affectionate boy.
He had his first appointment with cahms about 3 weeks ago and it another 2 weeks till the next.
I know no one on here can possibly say yes he has tourettes or no he doesnt. But I just feel a bit lost till the next appointment. Any support would be gratefully received

what did they say at CAMHS? Try not to worry too much - hopefully he'll get the support he needs soon.

Not a lot. It was just really gathering all the information. The second appointment is in 2 weeks without ds. She did notice his tics before I had chance to mention them

School have not been very supportive, say there is a problem then say there isnt. However he is starting new school tomorrow, not due to this but as we have moved house. He has been very bad today with tics and tantrums which I think is in relation to school change. He does seem to tic more when he is nervous.
Pipinjo - there does seem to be sensory problems too. For the last few years I have been raising my concerns about him to hv and his paed (he is under for different medical issue) and it has always been brushed aside. It was only when h started hurting himself that I got a very quick ref to cahms

My son is 6 and is in the process of being diagnosed with Tourettes and ADHD - he has various motor tics and vocal tics and what I thought was just bad behaviour but my school referred me to the paediatrician and it is very likely it is both, Tourettes and ADHD do often go hand in hand. It is very difficult to get the symptoms diagnosed but if you feel there is a problem, then don't allow them to fob you off, keep a diary of different symptoms.

I was quite lucky when I had the appointment with my sons Paediatrican, my son was having a particularly bad day so he saw everything with his own eyes.

My son has a relatively severe head nodding, he makes a noise in his throat, he also has thrusting downwards of his arms and also has some quite severe tantrums and refuses to do as he is told. check out the Tourettes Action website www.tourettes-action.org.uk/ there is a lot of information on there.
