We moved last summer and are still under same Speech service but different therapist and clinics etc.

Dd2(8.4) has speech problems, mainly to do with clarity and missed sounds. She also has some undiagnosed hearing problems. Her old SALT used to see her weekly which reduced to half termly over a few years as she improved and was mainly monitoring her progress and advising the school on programmes to use in class/1:1 sessions. By November we still hadnt heard from the SALT and school were/are having difficulty understanding her. School & I both pushed and eventually I contacted the old SALT and new one saw her in school for about 10 mins (according to teacher).

Just before Christmas school asked me in and I met the SALT (who was 30 mins late)with the Head/SENCO and we got her to admit that dd2 needed monitoring but she wouldn't have time to see her in school, I offered to take her to clinic and SALT was taken aback but conceeded that she would be able to monitor her that way. School requested input for an IEP and she was insistant that she didnt need one. As dd2 is on SA+ she obviously did and last week her teacher showed me the new IEP and explained what programmes she would be following although he was still waiting for some things to come through from the SALT.

I still havent heard from the SALT about clinics and neither school or I have had any sort of assessment from her apart from the targets for the IEP. I called today and was told that dd2 is probably on a waiting list but the receptionist had no idea if there was one/how long as the SALT had that information and wasnt available. I have requested she calls me. If there is a waiting list thats fair enough (although dd2 should have been on since the Summer not Xmas) but I tend to the side of the SALT hasnt done anything yet.

What do I do next? I didnt feel I was being that demanding , all we want is advice for school/home and regular monitoring.

It sounds like you need to start creating a paper trail. School will want your DD to speak more clearly so that they don't have to support her so much. SALT won't want to do more than they have to, because they are overworked. You want your DD to get the help she needs to develop clear speaking.

You need to write to both the school and the SALT department, outlining the input you have had to date, what was promised at the meeting, that you haven't had it, and request that they contact you with details of how they are going to support your DD.

Thanks, I dont have a problem with what school are doing and they warned me that the SALT was difficult to work with (not in so many words but YKWIM) and they have put support in. Their concern is that they dont understand her. She doesnt have a problem with it she is very confident normally, this was knocked in the changing schools and at first wouldnt speak in assembly (first time she hasnt volunteered!) but now she has settled in she is back to normal (if not more confident ) Should I be asking school for anything else outside her 1:1/small group work. She isnt struggling academically.

Will give SALT some time to return my call (a week enough?) and then write to her and copy in her manager.
