2dc with AS. MMR for No.3? Help!

Thats about it really. I have two DD's. The eldest has a definite diagnosis for Aspergers and ADHD. The second has a verbal diagnosis and is awaiting assessment for Aspergers. Both girls had the MMR, without me really questionning it. DC3 (DS1) Has just turned 1. Any sensible opinions about giving him the MMR?

I don't want to start a massive debate, just a concerned parent!

Thanks guys
Snoz

with the sheer numbers of people in my family with asd's, I didn't give my DC's their MMR jabs until 2.5 for DD (asd) but I already 'knew' by then that she was on the spectrum, not a formal dx, just 'knew' IYSWIM. She didn't have her booster till 5yo, just as she was starting school. With DS1/DS2, I waited until after 3yo for the first one, and did the booster 2 weeks before they started FT school, as local schools are 'funny' about DC's starting FT school without having had it.

I waited until ds2 was 6 and dd was 4 (haven't had boosters yet). It took me that long to decide whether to do it or not. Ds2 hid under a chair and then screamed sooooo much another patient asked what he had had done, but apart from that I was happier having them done later.

Had similar issues with DS2, we took the single jab route,he has had Rubella & Measles, unfortunately the Mumps jab has ceased to circulate in the UK as govt offered manufacturers more money to produce the MMR!

Our decision from this has been to wait until he is 3yrs old (July this year) and give him the MMR then give the booster just before school entry next Summer.

Hasn't been an easy decision to make though.

Thank you for some brilliant, well presented advice. I didn't realise you could just wait (although now it seems obvious!). I think that sounds like an idea I would be comfortable with. I knew by the time by girls were 3 so that may help.

Thanks again snoz

We had both DSes done as soon as possible (DS1 is almost 4 and has an autism DX and CP but to be honest he's always clearly been so, we just didn't know that's what it was). DS2 is 11 mo.

Our reasoning is that we live in one of the highest areas for non-vaccination in the country (40% takeup) and I wasn't given the MMR as a child as bro had febrile convulsions, as a result caught full-blown mumps, nearly died, and the resulting damage destroyed half my immune system and has left me with auto-immune issues. DS1 is the only child in either family with autism, so we figured the physical
benefits of having the MMR outweigh any possible risks, as of course no vaccine is 100% safe.
