Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

DS has ASD - what should we do?

This was confirmed by paediatrician. He is 7 and is very good at maths, reads and spells well, but struggles with verbal communication. He likes to be friendly to other children but he is not very conscious of how they might want to play, so this can backfire at times.

Any suggestions?

[I could have written this same text without the official label I suppose, but it seems helpful to have a 'disease' that you can 'treat' rather than just a description of behaviours.)

Does he have an EP yet? You can request for your DS to be given additional support, maybe a 1:1, at school during play times to help him play with other children. You might need to get this by getting a statement, unless the school is willing to fund this themselves. I know a few children with ASD in MS that have this additional help.

an EP?

They did do social skills sessions previously, but this no longer an option in Y3 (we can have 1-to-1 special needs sessions, but this will cost something like £30 for half an hour, whereas previously we didn't pay). As he is at private school I assume they won't get any funding.

Sorry, EP = Educational Psychologist. Not sure on the "rules" of private schools unfortunately, but I do know that each state schools have an EP assigned to them.
