Sorry to land this on you.

DS2 (4.4) had his MMR at age nearly 2. He did not show any obvious or sudden reaction. He already had receptive language delay problems. His language really kicked in at 3.4/3.8.

I have read the testimony of parents on this board. I feel concerned about the MMR

I keep scheduling then postponing the pre-school booster.

I do not want DS2 to get Tetanus or Polio as a result of my fear about the MMR component.

I know that only DH and I can make the decision, but if anyone has any thoughts, I'd be glad to hear them.

You should be able to test for immunity - I was offered a job in the States some time ago and had to show I was immune to measles - had a blood test at one of these clinics in London that offers vaccinations - and of course there's a test for rubella immunity as I've had it ie the test when PG. Don't know about mumps.

And agree thederkin on tetanus and polio - in a separate vaccination. I don't think there's any controversy about tetanus and it is important to keep up immunity to that - you will probably be asked re school trips and so forth when the last tetanus jab was.

good luck with whatever decision you make.

Does anybody know can you get the blood test for immunity on the NHS or is it something you would have to pay privately for?

We had singles and then for the booster had DD's immunity tested. She was immune so no booster, no hassle from GP as lab informed them. It cost £100 but worth it imo.

We also went ahead and let my DS (Asd) have the second MMR. Initially he showed no reaction other than a sore leg where he received the injection, but in the weeks following his immune system seemed more compromised as he picked up every bug going. He also appeared to be much more sensitive to his environment.
The other thing I remember is that he feet began to crack and peel quite badly (probably yeast infection).

It was a hard time for us all, but it was also the beginning of reception class so there were multiple factors that caused his behaviour to worsen.

About 3 months after DS's second MMR I began a clean-up diet and also a few supplements.
This really helped and his skin, immune system and temper problems improved.

If I had to do it all again I would probably let him have the MMR, but be a little more prepared with vitamins, Omega oils and lots of TLC - Saying that I did refuse the Swine Flue jab for him.

I've spoken to a GP.

I can get the other aspects of the booster (tetanus, etc) done without the MMR element.

The NHS will not carry out a blood test to see if DS2 will already have good immunity.

Doctor was not aware of any such test - he is only familiar with the tests that show you have had the disease, as opposed to the jab (they leave different markers in your body, he thinks).

So I can go ahead and make an appointment to get the other jabs up to date which is good.

But I'm on my own doing the blood tests. Guess I just have to contact the big private hospital in Leeds and take it from there?
