We have a final Statement!

20 weeks after sending our initial request, we have a final Statement of Special Educational Needs.

We have written confirmation that a place in the Special school is DD's.

We have written confirmation that she will get transport.

It is quite odd, now, to not have a 'next step'.

oh well done glad the outcome is good for you ours took along time too with lots of rewrites as long as your happy

Well done Lou, you've done it! The lovely thing about a statement is that it pretty much stays the same now ( I know in theory they review it every year, but in practice at least in our case no-one seems to be arsed to ever change it or rewrite it, in fact I'm pretty sure no-one ever reads it again!). You can have a well-deserved rest now!

Well done Lou!!.

(BTW my DS's statement has been rewritten twice since it was first issued; I don't think it will be amended any more, well I hope so!)

Thanks! It isn't as specific as I would want for mainstream, but as it is for special school, I think it is suitable.

I think we have made the right decision. Couldn't take the risk of sending her to mainstream with less than full 1:1. Preschool had to open the doors early today because they couldn't get DD1's coat on; she was playing under the coat trolley

Well done, and good luck with starting school.

Is it normal to have felt a little pang because I got an email telling me that DD1 has a place at the local mainstream primary? (Applied in normal procedure before statement stuff was done).

Completely normal. I call them Holland moments (as in the slightly icky 'Welcome To Holland' thing. I much prefer Welcome to Beiruit/ Schmolland), when I'm getting mushy over something that makes the difference between J and his peers obvious, the whole 'what could have been thing'. I then kick myself up the bum and move on but we are allowed them once in a while!

Really pleased the Statement thing has been so painless for you!

lou031205 · 22/01/2010 20:54

D'ya know, I first read 'welcome to Holland' on a burns unit notice board, when I was a student nurse. I remember thinking it was profound and moving. Now that I am the subject of it, it doesn't seem quite so profound and moving, more so patronising & sympathetic.

One of my friends urged me to contact the council re: housing today because we have 3 small children, and although we live in a 3 bed house, we only have a lounge for downstairs space. DD1 can't go upstairs unattended, and we only have an upstairs loo. She said "You have a disabled child & you are having to go upstairs all the time to take her to the toilet...".

Despite the HRC DLA & the blue badge, the special school place (which I am congratulated on as everyone tells me they are gold dust), I forget that's why each day is so hard & why I want to cry with frustration

Yes, Lou, I know what you mean. Beiruit and Schmolland fit better, I think.
