Flat feet

DD1 who has Cp has very flat feet. The doctors have always gone on about them and she had to have an insole inside her pierdio boots. But DD2 also has flat feet, but is fine otherwise, should I get it checked or am I panicking??? I know she will only need insoles, but is it worth the heartache?

Dd1 has this problem mieow. We had piedro boots and inserts, then inserts on their own, until finally a physiotherapist said as long as the shoe being worn was supportive it didn't really make much difference. Trainers are the best type to wear apparently because they usually have a high instep and support the foot while allowing it to breathe. Flat feet shouldn't make too much difference to her life though, maybe a bit of aching from long walks. Walking barefoot through sand is a good way to strengthen the muscles there. Next time you are having dd1 checked you could always ask the orthotist to have a quick peek just to be sure. If they think there was a problem you could then get referred.

Haven't seen you posting much recently, are you ok?

Have been about. Still stumbling along..... marriage isn't great, but I'll live. DD1 is currently going through the statementing process and we are still waiting for her MRI, but when i phoned yesterday they had no referral so I have to phone them again and see what happening.

mieow my dd has piedros with insoles and I too have noticed my ds has flat feet too. I asked the HV about insoles for him and she said wait a while as baby type feet look very flat anyway, he is 19 months by the way. As lou said weve always been told trainers are good for flat feet. Sorry dont know how old your dd2 is but I know vertbaudet catalogues first shoes also have the valgus insoles in.

Hope all goes well with the MRI and statementing.

I have flat feet. As I child my mum mentioned it to the doctor who dismissed it so I never got any advice on it. In fact, it has only been in the last year or so that I've done something about it. That is because I've had a lower back problem and both my physio and orthopedic specialist have said that having flat feet, although not the cause of my problem, does not help. So, I have been wearing insoles I bought from Boots which make an amazing difference to my whole posture and comfort when walking - they do different sizes but I'm not sure if they have childrens ones. I really wish I'd done something about it sooner. I am also going to see a podiatrist in a couple of weeks to see about getting some insoles specially made for me.
What I am trying to say is, it is nothing to panic about but I would go ahead and get the insoles.
