Help - my SIL is going mad with worry as my nephew, 6, who has Down's, leeps undoing his seatbelt as soon as the car stops - but not just at home- at traffic lights, junctions etc etc. Does anyone know of any products that might stop him doing this but still be safe if needed to be released in an emergency?

Something like this?

I don't but someone told me when they were referred to OT / wheelchair services for a buggy they were also referred for a houdini proof seat harness so try asking the OT dept.

we use a harness from crelling for dd1, as she wuoldn't sit with just a seatbelt (thought it was funny to slide out form the bottom!)

we have a seatbelt cutter in the car too, for emergencies, but the harness buckle should release, tbh - it is similar to car seat ones.

they have all sorts on there - from ones for more support to supposedly houdini-proof ones.

but was advised to buy this

if that helps. We also have the seat belt buckle as he still clips that off. Funny or not so funny story...but he was sitting in his car seat, we were going through a car park quite slowly when I had to brake sharply as someone reversed out of their space into my path. My son started saying mammy, mammy quite calmly and when I turned around he was off the back seat wedged between the front row and back row looking down to the ground. I had to stop myself from laughing but should I of been going faster....what could of happened???!!!

sorry forgot to add...still in his car seat.

We have the Crelling harness too, with an ordinary booster seat, but it still has to be used in conjunction with the car's own seatbelt, not instead of as it is only attached to the seats, not anchored in. However, it does have a brilliant 'backwards' clip that you lift to open instead of pressing a button, and even master escape-artist ds has never figured it out.
