Hi I am new to the board and I'm really hoping that somebody can help me!
I would like to know if anybody has any experience with the LEA for Reading for children with statements,
My husband is in the army and we are currently based in Colchester. He has been given the opportunity to apply for a posting in Reading.
My eldest daughter has a Statement of special needs, and has been given full time support in Mainstream school here in Colchester.
My husband and I would like to make an informed decision as to whether making this move would be the right thing to do!!! I have been told that some counties are better than others at supporting children of special needs but have only heard this through word of mouth, so have no idea which counties are good and which are bad!
I would be really greatful to hear of anybody's opinion of Reading LEA, good or bad, or suggestions where i could find out more.
I tried ringing the LEA myself but they cannot help as I don't have an address which we won't get until we know if we are definatley going to move!!! and we aren't keen to say yes or no until we know what the LEA is like!! Bit of a catch 22 I think!!!
Hope that made sense, thx

Worth ringing the Berkshire Autistic Society who are based in Reading and would undoubtedly be able to give you the latest info on how Reading is doing.

we're in Reading - generally ASD provision here is dire. Preschoolers theoretically get either portage or the preschool advisory teacher thingie (term time only, an hour a month). Both under funded. Oh and access to the 'complex communication difficulty' team (one SALT). They don't like funding 1:1 because it leads to dependency (I'm sure that has nothing to do with the cost ) and there are three special schools in Reading so they prefer all ASD children with verbal delay to be placed at one of them rather than mainstream.

The ASD 'specialist' paed is about to retire.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on with the Berkshire AS they don't seem to actually do anything.
