School closed again. Grrr

DS1's special school is closed once again. The m/s school next door is open for business as usual. Bus routes are running to the school. When you phone the school, it goes straight to answermachine with no mention of the snow. The website has no information and hasn't been updated since 2007 except to add their 'excellent' Ofsted report.

Grrrr.

How annoying - In an ideal world, you would be allowed to leave DS1 at the MS school - with whatever level of care he needs. Have they given you any reason ?

No. No-one answering the phone. It is wrong that they don't keep people informed. I suspect that the drive is impassable but as the man from the council said, the school has it's own grit supplies and it is up to them to co-ordinate sorting it out.

At the 'sister' SLD school on the other side of the city, (and in some m/s schools) the staff have been clearing the drive and the school opened for business at 10. It is all about putting a bit of extra effort in as far as I can see

Isn't there some gov iniative now that schools have to start communicating via email/sms?
Ours has jsut started and it does make life so much easier. Might be worth getting on their backs about it.

Think there's going to be a national school's website intitiative but not until the spring. Until then, if they can update their current website to boast about their Ofsted report, they can put the bloody term dates and bad weather disruption reports online too.

I think being a parent of a child at special school can mean you are much more cut off from the school and this lack of basic info speaks volumes about how much they consider communicating with parents a priority.

Astonishingly dd1's secondary was closed -mainstream and within walking distance through country lanes, but dd2's special school 14 miles away was open, all taxi's and buses running, including all those on oxygen, tubes, etc!

Back to front world.

Just had a 'heated debate' with the Head teacher of my son's special school about why no information and why no work party of (paid) teachers out on Friday or Monday to grit and shovel (they are out there now so school didn't start until 10). School drive still not done!!

He had a whole list of completely feeble excuses which I trashed one by one. Now worried I'll be very unpopular and it will impact on my son. Still, it had to be said and I'll be writing to the Governors pronto
