It's only chicken pox. But she is SO uncomfortable and unhappy and has a temperature.

Calamine lotion. A cool bath. Paracetamol or children's nurofen. Hugs. And a large bailey's for you.

Only Mr Tumble will calm her down so we have him on heavy rotation. Calomine doesn't seem to be soothing her, she hates baths, and piriton seems to have no effect (DS is the same). I found the first spot on Sunday so it should be better by the w/e. I hope!

My two boys with ASD are just coming out of the chickenpox - I used aqueous calamine cream cos it does not dry the spots out the way the calamine lotion does and they seemed able to tolerate it more. Piritin was a big help - you could also try aloe vera gel which soothes the itch. I know your Dd does not tolerate baths well - bicarb of soda baths helped ours a lot if you are able to coax her in. Dealing with children with sensory issues and chickenpox is not easy!! On the brighter side, within six days ours were able to go back to school - it seemed to come and go quite quickly.

Thanks for the tip. I will try some aloe vera when I can get out to the shops. Her brother is ill too--not with chicken pox as he has had that, but a high temperature and headache. GP wants to see DD today because she is in such discomfort when she wees/poos. So he can check out DS as well.

Oh I sympathise, DD1 has pox atm as well. It's not too bad during the day, luckily as she has a cream aversion and won't let me put calamine on her, but at night it is a nightmare.
Last night she slept in ehr own bed but the previous 2 nights she has ended up with me crying and thrashing as she ahd spots right on her vulva and on the egde of her vagina, and on her bumcrack too, so of course every movement hurt her with no distracting telly in bed!
I did give her a 'sock friend' which was basically a sock with porridge oats in and she took him into the bath, when she washed with that it really soothed (something my mum told me to try but I have seen on here too)
I did chuck the sock though, ew.

Eurax lotion is much longer acting than calamine.

If it helps I saw her first spot on saturday afternoon and today they are 80% scabbed..

GP says DD has thrush as well which is why she is so uncomfortable--she has itchy spots on top of itchy spots. So now we have 2 creams to alternate, anti-fungal and and antibiotic. Meanwhile DS has raging temperature but no symptoms (eg pain when going to loo, sore throat or cough). I saw DD's first spot on Sunday, Jack Bauer, so here's hoping they start to disappear soon!
Thanks for the advice about the porridge sock!

Does anyone know how much bicarb to add to the bathwater for a soothing effect?
