Ds has had poor attendance at school this term 70% due to being hospitalised. He has had 4 days off in total due to the usual bugs and illnesses which are not covered by medical 'evidence'.

I have received a letter from the school informing me that his attendance is 70% this term and i quote 'Due to the amount of absence through illness you will be required to provide medical evidence to support any future absences (i have, other than 4 days)

'In order to resolve this matter and improve the situation, i will be monitoring your child's attendance and as a consequence X will be placed on 'attendance report' until further notice. If x's attendance does not improve the Local Authority Attendance Officer will request a pre-referral meeting'

Im fuming, what can i do?

Phoenix, i have given the school a copy of his discharge sheet.

He would have been perfectly capable of doing work sent home as he wasnt actually feeling ill, he was just infectious. If this situation arises in future, which i am sure it will as he always has open sores which are prone to infection, i will ask for work to be sent home. Very helpful info you provided, thanks.

Got a letter from school yesterday saying seen as they have sent me 2 previous letters and his attendance hasnt improved, i have an appointment on the 25th.

Will the meeting be to discuss how i can improve on the 4 days that isnt covered by medical evidence?

The meeting will have been generated by a computer like the previous letters. Just go in and remind them of the obvious.

Do you think so Cory?

Its just i only got the second letter 7 days prior to receiving the appointment with LEA attendance officer.

The second letter stated 'In order to resolve this matter and improve the situation, i will be monitoring your child's attendance and as a consequence X will be placed on 'attendance report' until further notice. If x's attendance does not improve the Local Authority Attendance Officer will request a pre-referral meeting'

Ds's attendance had improved, as he hadnt had a day off since receiving the letter.
