Piedro Boots - do they really help?

Dd has had Piedro boots for about a year now. I constantly get told off by people (Portage worker, Riding for the Disabled physio etc) about her not wearing them all day long. My main problems are that her balance with them on is quite poor - she can take a few unassissted steps when barefoot but cannot take a single step in her boots. Also, I don't like the idea of her soft little feet crammed into these big & bulky boots all day long. I never wear shoes indoors.
On the other hand, her gait is better with the Piedros, she bends her knees well and takes 'proper' steps - but only with support. I've got a book on gross motor skills for children with DS which is very good and does not recommend shoes until the child is walking well. So, anyway, any opinions on this please?
Off to the shoe clinic now to get a new pair...

No seriously, find a felt tip in the same shade and fill it in! I had to do it to a dress that was brown and got bleach on it, leaving orange spots on it. Worked a treat.

You could ask your physio if you child could wear piedro slippers

Hi there,
I have B/G twins ,who are 17 months , my little boy Jack has " Di George suyndrome " weak and low muscle tone and develpopmental delay as well as poor immune system

Monday we met the Orthadist for the 1st time and he was measured for his new Pedrio boots .he has 2nd hand ones right now he has physio and hydrotherapy each week
He has hydrotherapy at " White Lodge " SN centre in Chertsey close by us

The Orthaduist a DR Andrew Tag ws really nice

Jack has started to crawl now he has been properly crawling for a week now
So hoping the boots will give him support and help him stand and hoepfully then walk

Thanks
All the Best

Our little girl turned two in September, she has had piedro shoes since she was one. She was assigned them for her ankles are unsupported and her left ankle turns inwards, she is on her third pair and wears them every day, we have yet to see an improments, her Physiotherapist put us in touch with the orthpeadic team and on her next session I will be asking for something else. These shoes are not cheap and I feel like we are wasting the nhs money as they don't seem to be working for her.

My ds was given them to help stop him toe walking when he was 4, his toe walking was so bad they had to put a steel plate on the bottom of the sole to stop him bending the boots but even that didn't work he just bent the plate, in the end he had an operation to snip his tendons on both legs which was done when he was 6, so from my experience of them I don't rate them much, but them my son was an extreme case though. My son is nearly 14 and no longer toe walked after the operation.

I know that it’s a long shot, because this post is really old, but fio2 are you still on here?
I’ve come across this post because of my daughter and we sound to be in the exact same position you were in and I just wondered how things turned out for your daughter? I’d be really grateful for any help.
