I notice several requests for help concerning children with dyslexia and other specific learning differences. In the academic year 1999/2000 ALL state schools were sent Dyslexia friendly schools information. Dyslexia and other specific learning differences are mentioned in the disability discrimination Act and schools should make 'reasonable adjustments' BEFORE children come into the school. The academic year 2008/2009 started a new kind of training for all schools called the Inclusive Development Programme. The first year concentrated on Speech and Language and Dyslexia. This academic year it is Autism. In theory all schools should be dyslexia friendly now but in reality there are very few across the whole country. I do not know of any state schools in the East Midlands that are dyslexia friendly. For your own Code aof Practice and Toolkit for Special education Needs ring 0845 60 222 60. All schools have this and parents can have their own copies on request. Parents I know find it useful as schools don't try to fob them off quite as much.
