Hi, realise this is probably not the best time to start this thread but following on from a thread I posted a little while ago, I am on a mission to go back to DS' new term all guns blazing and I would like some info from anyone out there....

DS has (unconfirmed but bleedin' obvious) dyslexia. He also has hypermobility and thus his writing and drawing are not at age appropriate levels.

Ds' teacher has so far been an absolute dinosaur about SEN and DS being on the register does not seem to entitle him to any really organised, focussed programme of help

So far his reading help is two sessions with the LSA per week (about 30 mins per week tops)

no extra help offered re handwriting/fine motor skills

Can anyone tell me if your child has similar issues, what level are they reading at? What can they read? I think it would help me to know where DS is on the scale of having problems.

Thanks

My son has Asperger's but he's reading level is fine ish ( he is 13 reading level of 12) When he first started secondary school he's reading age was 8( i do believe the way they test them always gives an accurate picture). I believe my son has hyper mobility and when observing him write he is slow and holds the pen in an awkward manor (same when eating) At the moment they are assessing him as he seems to be much better when typing. They are comparing work that he has written to work (that is similar) he has done on the computer. In which case if he does better this way they will continue to allow him to use one.
Is he on school action plus?

My son also had reading sessions and spell check word maker thingy....and this is when the SEN realised he was much better than they has originally thought.

sorry thats 'do not believe they get an accurate reading level'

thanks sarah - my DS is on school action (not that they have ever explained it in that way to me, I've just read the SEN policy on their website)

and not that there's much 'action' to school action

hope your son can continue to use the computer, sounds as if it will be good for him
