Hi second thread this morning sorry. On christmas eve i recieved a letter from dla saying that they hadnt reached a decision yet as they have requested a report from ds1s school and his consultant. Is this a good or bad sign or is it just the way all claims are dealt with.

yes its normal , but i put i didnt want them contacting his school but they could his peads

Oh can you actually ask them not to contact school then?Ds1s school are absolutely useless they have no clue about autism nearly every day he is put on the thunder cloud(their bad behaviour system) and cries and tells me sorry for being so grumpy.

Needless to say im presently trying to get him into another school.

well just said i don't want them contacting school was told this could go against his claim, but it didn't ds school are useless too but ds is fine in school all his problems are at home and bed time

BeauticianNotMagician · 28/12/2009 12:19

I might let them contact school then as he does have a few problems there but perhaps worth mentioning to dla how useless school are.Thank you.

I think you have to let them contact school or it does go against you. You can put a disclaimer that symptoms are milder at school and ask them to put more faith in the consultant, but their view is that a disabled child will be disabled in all settings, so no school report looks like you're covering something up or that it's your parenting that's the issue. Harsh stance but that's how it was explained to a friend of mine whose dd has autism and is passive and quiet in school but lets it all out at home.

I actully got ds1s teacher to fill out the back of the form as they are having difficulties with him.I will just let dla get on with it.All i really wanted the extra money for was the numerous taxis and driving lessons as he wont walk anywhere. We have coped this long though.

It's worth telling school that they will be contacted and actually briefing them on what they need to be describing. Also request to SEE their statement before they return it (they shouldn't argue that because it is confidential info about YOUR child)
I have always done this..I have also specified who at school is to be contacted so I know that the person filling in the forms actually knows my son well!
Good luck

Hello if any of you need more information on DLA and things then i am a Member of a great support group called www.parentsofdisabledchildren.co.uk who offer a wide range of support to any one that has disabled children and require help and they have a wide knowledge of this kind of thing. They have helped me alot with my issues, and i am sure they will help you too. They are really friendly.

As are we...normally.

Kaz01 - the founder of that group came on to MN late last year & tried to persuade us all of this.

Most of the info is lifted from sites like IPSEA.
