ds2 is 6 with ASD & CP, he has an appnt at the opthalmology dept, reading difficulty clinic.
They are going to check for any specific learning/reading difficulties, dyslexia & alike.
His understanding seems to be far greater than what he is able to express, both verbally & written, although maths is kind of OK'ish (still behind but not to the same extent).

Has anyone any knowledge of what they do, how they test, what is involved?
He ahs had a standard eye test with no problems.
I want to try & prepare ds2 if possible, he is not good in appnts so want to explain things up front.

Err they may be looking at whether different colour films (lay overs to put on his books) will help with his reading. Just tell him that they will probably ask some questions like 'do the words jump around on the page' maybe a few bits of writing (think my DD had to write the quick brown fox thingy that covers all the letters of the alphabet, sometimes the way letters are written can give an indication of dyslexia), and maybe look in his eyes etc. Best I can remember, my DD had this appointment about 6 yrs ago! Hope that helps a little. ( I have 2 asd DC's, who have other medical probs, and are pants at appointments, I know what it's like having to 'prepare' them for it!)

Thanks Loudlass
He has been using an overlay at school & it seems to help him tolerate looking at a page a little better.
He screams when we pull in to the hospital car park, so not relishing the thought, hopefully it will be a worthwhile appnt.

the only thing he can write is his name (3 letters) so it should be a quick appnt

I'm really debating if i should prepare him & ahve lots of moaning over a long period or let it all be a lovely suprise, & have a shorter but bigger outburst
