Mine are loving it. I don't know if it's the snow or the end of term, but DS1 hasn't been so happy for months. He's still bouncing off the walls, but is less grumpy about it. It's coming down thick and fast, tonight, so there's be snowmen to make in the morning!

glittery · 19/12/2009 20:40

nfortunately not lisa its a final seat fitting too so we need to go down.
here was me thinking it would be best going down now as the weather is usually bad in january!

BriocheDoree · 19/12/2009 20:44

DD loves it. Sensory heaven
DS HATES it. He's 2.5 but doesn't like the cold and is getting over flu. He has been crying whenever we leave the house.
Bloody car got stuck in the snow on Thursday and I only got it out today. Buggies are a nightmare in the snow so I feel for you with DCs in wheelchairs (vague memories of my friend at college who was in a wheelchair - it was a nightmare in the snow).
Got to drive to England on Wednesday - ugh! Parts of northern France have had really serious snow - it's been -16.
Riven, are you warm enough? (I seem to remember that your DD is really sensitive to cold). We're lucky that our appt building has central heating for the whole building so it keeps quite hot.

WeThreeNinks · 19/12/2009 20:54

DS is 2.5 and has loved running through it and churning it up but won't touch it or fall down in it. That was the other day and I was amazed that that was it, no need to wash or dry trousers or gloves or anything.

He was outside with DD (9) earlier and staring at her in amazement when she was touching the snow and making snowballs as if he really couldn't see the point.

And DH refuses to believe that DS has sensory issues. Because he's like us not wanting to explore the snow, being sensible. We HAVE done in the past, when we were two and three and four but we are adults now!

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 19/12/2009 21:05

i admit i lost my temper with dd1 earlier, we had only been out 5 minutes, she was well wrapped, warm but the moment she fell off the sledge that was it, end of world stuff.
DD2 loved it and landed flat in the snow but soon got over it.
I ended up walking back with dd1, getting inot PJs and watching charlie and Chocolate factory, (which dd2 cries when watching) while DH and DD2 stayed out.

ds hates being cold and was in an almighty mood because he was going to miss the party that he was pretending was't going to happen for the past fortnight!

He did enjoy the snow in the end though He made a mini snow man and I was v impressed!!

donkeyderby · 20/12/2009 00:14

Couldn't get out of the house. No car, no wheelchair on the ice. Respite cancelled, school cancelled. DS going stir crazy. I was just thinking about suicide when respite home phoned to say they could have him so asked friend with a 4x4 to pick us up from the bottom of the hill. I was prepared to slide DS down the hill on a bin bag if necessary. I danced with joy in my kitchen when he went, which I know is very wrong but there you go

Glitery.. we are not that far from cambridge, its been pretty rought he last couple of days but the forecast is OK for the start of the week, should be thawed out by Wednesday.
What a cool Xmas pressy... new wheels!

glittery · 20/12/2009 08:48

ooooh thanks Anon thats great news!

i reckoned the M6 should be pretty clear but was a bit worried about the A14!
we'll be driving back up the road on christmas eve and my dads worried we'll get stuck in snow and not make it home for christmas!

i could have waited till january but sometimes the weathers worse then and i'm really keen to get it for him next week so he'll have the next few weeks off school to "practice"

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 20/12/2009 09:34

well if you get stuck, we arent far either, but think it might be a little crowded, but if we can help we will
hope all ok

No snow here , we had lots in Feb and dd2 loved it (again sensory), dd1 was not as keen but coped better than she does with the beach/sand.

Dd2 has been stuck in the house most of the week because the straps on her buggy wont fit around her with her big coat on (she can walk but tends to run off).

glittery · 20/12/2009 10:47

We're quite lucky as ds is always ridiculously hot so sometimes he's out with just a thick jumper on, folk look at me as if im neglecting him!

cloelia · 20/12/2009 21:26

Dd wanted to go out in her powered chair onto the icy drive outside our house so I took a deep breath and let her go; she was back in 5 mins saying look at this: she started at one end of the drive, went gently down hill, braked and skidded round on the ice! was totally thrilled, asked me if it was like skating. But the rest of the weekend she has been wrapped up inside as I dare not take the Doblo out up our lane.

grumpyoldeeyore · 20/12/2009 22:52

DS (barely verbal 3 months ago) looked out the window and said "winter" - wouldn't go near the stuff though!

5inthesleighbed · 20/12/2009 22:57

DS2 loves the snow. Every time we have ventured out he has got so excited and said "It's snowing!!!" as if he has never seen it before in his life. Very cute.

We had 16 inches fall yesterday!

I had to push him in his mac major to Tesco though, and it was bloody hard work. Mysympathies to those with bigger DC and wheelchairs!
