I feel like such a terrible mother today

DS is going through a period where he is absolutely obsessed with the Ninky Nonk. He has to watch it, look at pictures and stories of it, or he will lie on the floor making the sound that it does. He is using alot of Echolalia so all I have heard all day is 'Quick Makka Pakka, catch the Ninky Nonk', or 'Oh Dear, look at that, the Ninky Nonk has gone without the pontipines again' he repeats them over and over.

I feel terrible because I am sick to death of it. I had to take him to the park today because I was so bloody fed up of hearing it, and I thought the park might get me a little peace, but he didnt blooming stop.

Please tell me I am not the only one who has been driven mad by an obsession? At the moment I have snuck into the kitchen to have a cuppa and he is looking at his pictures. I can hear him talking about it to himself.

the tv talk echolalia is so incredibly boring - and particularly trying in a heartbreaking sort of way when the only sentences they can come out with are rote learnt ones from the telly. not a terrible mother at all.

Barmymummy · 11/12/2009 17:10

Not terrible at all, have been there and its so incredibly irritating. I used to hear endless repititions of Garfield, Monsters Inc, oh the list goes on. I lost it one day and shouted at him to just stop talking such compelete and utter rubbish Needless to say he didn't but I just couldnt stop myself.

His new latest obsession in the tv programme Hole In the Wall so I am now subjected to having Anton Du Beke living here ....bring back the train obsession anyday

We've had Old McDonald on constant reply for 8 MONTHS, its drives me insane and Vtech he can write Vtech, draw Vtech and talk VTech but can't spontaneously say Hello Mummy . DH had to drag DS out of a petting farm because HE could not stand another rendition of Old McDonald, even though DS was having a wonderful time singing to the sheep. We've moved from delayed echolalia to more imitate echolalia and he will repeat back everything so I thought great I'll get him to repeat "I love you Mummy" - one and only time he would not oblige .

Oh I so feel for you. DS2 is obsessed with the Disney cartoon Wall-e, has been since December last year. He has watched it nearly every day, has most of the toys, books and stickers from it, and even his lunch bag for school is Wall-bloody-e. He recites it word for word. The only good thing about it, is if we are tryig something knew, I say "Just like Wall-e" or "just like Eve", and he will attempt it. I got him to have a go on the bungee trampolines once by saying that to him, and he absolutely loves them now. One thing we can guarantee he ill enjoy now when we are out and about

It used to be ITNG, and oh how I long for those days back, as at least there was some change in each programme.

We have renditions of "Christmas pudding", "Oldmacdonaldtwniklestar" etc. Latest repetitive phrases are "poo-poos", "bummers" & "no problem"

5inthesleighbed · 11/12/2009 20:32

We have "boobies". DS2 loves that word, it really winds me up though!

Barmymummy · 11/12/2009 21:08

Hmmm.. Ds's latest is mummystinkypants but I think I can blame DD for that one.....

5inthesleighbed · 11/12/2009 21:16

mysonben · 11/12/2009 22:55

I'll join the crew ... we have had for quite a while "wait for meeee!!!... today the blue tunnel" (from chuggington followed by ds singing the theme song), we had "moonpig.com" from the tv advert, we are now getting "i'm Mario", "okey-dokey!", ...from super mario on the wii.
Arrghhh!!! Help... i see we're not alone in this!

FuckingNinkyNonk · 11/12/2009 23:21

GRRR at the lollypop song, my 11 yo DD is (almost) over the repeating, but that one does my ruddy head in!!! 20,000 times a day i hear that f'ing song!!! AND now my 6yo DS2 is copying her so I have it in bluddy surround sound!! at stupid stupid dell advert!

coppertop · 12/12/2009 21:59

The latest obsession in our house is the "Peanut Butter Jelly Time" song. There's always someone singing it. Over and over. And over. And over....

Here's a Youtube link to it. I'll be very surprised if you can make it past 30 seconds without wanting to throw the computer through the nearest window.

Novacane · 13/12/2009 20:30

It can be annoying but so funny aswell. My DS announced to us today as he was trying on a coat in Gap that 'he doesn't use Cillit bang anymore'

We tried so much not to laugh but couldn't help it.

He once told some (distantish) relatives that ' washing machines live longer with Calgon'.

misscutandstick · 14/12/2009 07:24

DS2 used to do adverts a lot too.... "I need a hello moto", "I need new thinking new drinking" ect, suppose at least he added "I need", but it was quite irritating.

DS1 is really rather dull and ONLY does machine-gun/bomb/bullet noises constantly. And i mean CONSTANTLY. Hes 17y/0 and has done it for the last 12yrs, shows no sign of stopping yet .

THink i win in longevity - but at least its not that bloodyannoying lollypop song!
