I have just received my long awaited Senior SALT report.

Although she highlights in her report problems when she assessed him at school with attention and listening, verbal comprehension, expressive language, speech sound difficulties, social interaction skills, flexibility of thinking, eating difficulties etc, etc.

Her conclusion states ds is a little boy with a complex pattern of strength and weaknesses. His mother is convinced that he has some kind of ASD and certainly info within the HOME setting strongly supports this as a possibility. It is recommended that ds be referred for a full investigation of his social communication and interaction skills.

I was rather hoping her report would reflect HER opinion, NOT MINE.

my paed report said that I was considering the possibility of an ASD diagnosis, and she has actually diagnosed DD, so i thought it was just something they wrote, to say that the parents backed up their view?

I would be cranky at getting a report stating things in that way!
I did get one report from area senco saying similar stuff like 'no two-way interaction with peers, struggles to understand open- questions, speech delay, obessive behaviours around toilet, noises, and vehicles toys,...' conclusion said : it is unclear if behaviours are due to lack of clear communication and frustration, or if there is anything else underlying them,...mum has concerns about asd' !!!
err... yes, paed said she thinks ds is on the spectrum! So i feel my 'concerns' are quite justified...

The only person who can diagnose ASD is a clinical psychologist. My physiotherapist actually got in trouble with the consultant for suggesting to me she thought DS might have ASD. I think that's why they are so careful not to put that they may think they have it.
