Imaginary friends?

Is having imaginary friends, classed as imaginative play?

I always thought it was, but 'experts' seem to see it as further indication of ASD.

Oh I thought that was a good sign of imaginary play too!! Why is it seen as a further indication?

Apparently it is 'self absorbed behaviour'

I felt a bit when Paed asked me whether ds talks to himself. I replied no, he talks to 'George' doh!!

oh?

Id have thought that was good too but what do i know - apparently i had one too when i was around 6/7yrs. But i "used" it to get my own way, apparently

I had one too - until my younger sister was old enought to interact with!

lol, do a search - this has been discussed before... someone (peachy?) was considering research into imaginary friends and sn. it would defintiely be interesting.

i had one called tibdy. (?) i'm not asd.

dd2 had one (actually more than one) and was distraught because she left one night. she used to sleep on the top bunk. (dd2 has cp not asd)

neither of my nt kids had one though.

My NT DD had an imaginary friend when she was 3/4 called Edie. Nowt ASD about her! I thought imaginary friends were a very normal common occurance in children?
