Question for those of you with sensory seeking (particularly oral) kids

DD has been like a bear with a sore head all week - constantly in and out of the food cupboards trying to steal biscuits and even eating uncooked rice. Went really mad at her earlier because I had threatened her with all sorts of dire things if she did it again (I am really trying not to go down the road of locks on the cupboard doors. I think she's capable of learning this). However, I have just noticed that her second molars are coming through (she's only 5!) and I'm wondering if this could be linked.
Any other sensory-seekers out there?
Really need advice about how to stop her wanting to put things in her mouth the whole time. She'd kind of stopped it for a while but it's really back with a vengeance and I think it could be the teeth...

Dd2 is eating the decorations on the tree , she will also go through cupboards in search for food and is happy to eat uncooked rice and pasta. Dd's only 3.8 so i use a stair gate to keep her (and the dog) out of the kitchen.

Our OT gave us a chewy tube last week for DD. We use a stairgate on the kitchen door.

She HATED chewy tubes Ended up giving them to DS when he was a baby for his teething.
Trying not to go down the stairgate route. Think I'll just have to be consistent consistent consistent!

LOL at eating the decorations!

Dd1 keeps making 'keep out' and 'danger' signs to stop dd2 getting into things. SALT told me to use no entry signs on the cupboards and to stop dd2 climbing the furniture but i havn't got around to doing it yet.

Snap with the chewy tubes Ds bored of them ages ago but they do make an excellent teether for DS2.

Ds eats everything. We keep the kitchen lock at a massive inconvenience - kitchen is in middle of house so is really awkward but DS just doesn't understand/cant control the compulsion to put things in his mouth. He now eats wipes and tissues, carpet and paper. He is very sneaky about how he does it as well- he will go to desired item casually then grab it, back towards the door and then run. The nutritionist said it was a craving for some minerals he is deficient in. I dunno, but we have bought some sensory toys to stimulate the mouth area but haven't got around to using them yet.

So THAT's why my ds constantly raids the cupboards and fridge!

He is very oral, mainly he licks things, but he also chews things and constantly wants things in his mouth. He loves to eat raw pasta and raw veg...he even picks bits off the veg in the supermarket to eat when I'm not looking.

I tried lollies but they only work for as long as the lolly does, and I don't really want to give him too many.

I'll keep an eye on this thread though for any handy tips.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
