Dd is going through re-assessment and we have just been sent the proposed statement and all of the evidence with it. You can imagine how shocked I was when in it I received a 5 page report which was about a completely different child. Presumably the other family have mine. I will speak to the LEA tomorrow.
What would you do? I am furious but dh says I should let it go????

I've had something similar - LEA send the school copies of all the statement review letters every year. Including name, address, DOB etc. of every child in the school. The muppets sent the whole thing to me. Less sensitive info of course, but massive data protection issue.

I emailed case officer asking if she wanted me to drop them into school on my way past. She mailed back "yeah, thanks".

OK, anyone can make a mistake. But this is very confidential information and there should be processes and checks to pick a mistake like this up. You don't just stick a pile of letters with confidential info next to a pile of envelopes with addresses on and leave the office junior to hopefully match the two up more often than not. You do one at a time. Print letter, print envelope, seal, next letter. It's not rocket science.

I think a stiff letter to the head of department or whatever is called for - ask what their data protection policy is, and how they intend to change their processes to prevent this sort of breach in future.

Might be worth contacting the other parents to make sure they do have your info - what if it's gone completely missing...

The exact same thing happened to me. The other child's statement was sent to everyone who should have got a copy of my daughter's, head of nursery etc.

I phoned and complained very strongly. Was told by the person who did it that she was very stressed as she had lots to do having just come back from holiday! Her boss phoned to apologise but they should have a more robust systems of checks to ensure this cannot happen.

I posted it back to them .

Blimey. This looks quite a common occurance!

Shocking.

Me too - I had a copy of a letter from the Ed Pysch to my DS's school in which not only my son was mentioned but the SENs of other named children in his class were also commented on .

Quite ironic really - they must us jump through hoops to wrestle information from them howver they feel quite free to make confidential information public to other parents.

Gawd I hate LEAs!

I had a similar thing happen to me by the local council and a printout of their register of children with disabilities and all the info of another child.

I phoned them but and they weren't interested. I then phoned the manager and quoted the data protection laws at them and they were interested! The data controller for that LEA must be informed. Ended up with them sending me a massive bunch of flowers which wasn't my aim (but twas very nice!) but hopefully making them think a bit more.
