DLA Mobility for under 3yr old?

Hi, as the title says, I'm looking for any info on getting the mobility part of the DLA for my daughter. She is profoundly disabled by a terminal brain disease and currently gets the high rate DLA but not any mobility allowance as she is only 18 months old. Has anyone got any experience of getting the mobility part for a child under 3? I'm sure it must be possible in extreme cases but so far all I get is that they do not pay out mobility allowance for under 3s... We are coping at the moment but she isn't getting any lighter and cannot help us in any way due to a total lack of tone and motor functions. We currently use a large van for transport so we can fit her equipment in but it will need modification before too long, as she grows.

you can't get it for under 3's used to be 5 when I first started getting it for my son.

You can't get it no sorry, the DLA mobility system is full of anomalies like that sadly.

However, try contacting your local council if it is a blue badge that you want, the van part unfortunately AFAIK has to wait but I think they assume you don't need more car
space than a pushcahir would ( I know, I know...)

I think they consider a under 3 as being a baby so there for should be in a pushchair (no different from any other under 3 year old).

Thanks guys, thats what I hear in general.. I think I'll have to just try and see, I can get supporting letters from physio and neurology and a list + photos of all the kit. It's so stoopid that we have to bash our heads against these numpty bureaucrats to try and make them understand our kids needs

i had heard of one baby getting it they went to court but they carry oxygen and other big things too.

isn't there something about if a child is terminally ill tho?

I thought that was just meaning that they sped the application process up, but OP I would speak to cerebra or mencap- assuming you don't get it they will know how to approach the issues and who to apply to forhelp;a great many of us have used the charity or benevolent route over the years (benevolents are great if theres oneattaqcjed to your or your dps job- dh was working for newspaper haulage, and the press one was wonderful)

Yes you can get it for an under 3, IF you have to carry medical equipment in addition to that required to supprt physical needs, so O2, suction that type of thing.

This is a relatively new ruling but ask DLA specifically if you feel you qualify
