We are going for a second opinion on dx of DD1 as in June she was given informal dx of ASD and things have gone downhill and proffessionals are refusing to help without an dx.
One first CDAC appointment we were completely un aware of the questioning we would face and what sorts of questions they would need to know. DD was 6 when we saw them and they were asking about pointing, waving ect ect.

I have now been though our tapes of dd1 as a baby and have some of her hand twirling (I forgot she did it tbh,) teeth grinding (still does this), not waving to people, very difficult to distract, not pointing, ect. Now do just write these down or am I better to record clips onto dvd to take to appointment?
TIA

Can only say "A picture tells a thousand words". If you think it will haelp then yes, take it.

Yes - I use film clips a lot - although obviously they can be edited, there are limits to what anyone could do (even if they wanted to) to distort reality.

The Paed who gave the talk alst week said yes, espeically ones of the first birthday party apaprently- they ask for those a lot.

Hand twirling- can you describe it?

well i have this clip of her, she must be about 16months old, concentrating hard on playing, sitting down arms raised like muscle man postion and turning hands at wrist, does that make sense?

Will they likely have a dvd player in there?

They'll almost certainly have a PC/Laptop that will play it.

thanks, we have hours of video if her, loads of her just sitting not listening, hand twirling and teeth gridign (which Im now wondering if they can do anything for)

Have started a diary too and have some pictures I took, of lined up cars (oddly linning up only started noticing a few weeks back) and some pictures of her numbers, she writes and writes numbers on papaer and all over her white board.

I wish someone had told me to do all this before first appointment, might have saved some stress

I recorded DS1 last night, hand flapping, licking his hand, biting his arm, clicking his fingers, to take with us to see his consultant next week.

Hi, i also have many videos of DS displaying some peculiar behaviours, lining up the sofa cushions or stacking up all the shoe, going beserk when i dare moving one, lining up his cars and just kneeling there staring at them for ages, me trying to read a book to DS and him refusing to turn the page obsessing over the same picture and repeating endlessly 'mermaid , alien'...?, or DS having a total meltdown when he first saw the new bathroom floor,...
These types of behaviours are unlikely to be seen by the professionals involved during assessments as in appointments with paed, they sit with DS at a little table and play with him in a structured sort of way, with puzzles,...and most of the 'suspicious' behaviours caught in the videos are when DS is doing unstructured freeplay.

I know they would help in getting a dx for DS but feels 'awkward' at producing such evidence iyswim?
Anyway we haven't started proper asd assessments yet, so might indeed ask them if they want to see the videos if i feel we are been fobbed off...
