just wondering . i got a letter from the genetisit today abou dd4s tests ....chromosomes all fine , but have discovered thst her current bone age is 2.7 years , her actual age is 4.2 ( at the time of test 3 months back).
i only know of one other child who has this ... her big brother ds1 .(he's my step-son).
I know this is whats causeing both the kids to be very small for age, they are both hypermobile too....am i right thinking it could be linked, and that its been passed down by DH somehow?.But if so why hasnt it shown up on chromosomes?

My Dniece has a younger bone age.

how is she fluffy?
does it cause her any problems?

Yes she has pain in her feet and hips which i think is to do with her bones not 100% sure. she has turners syndrome and is too short in stature. She's 15 but her 10yo sister is taller than her. her is genetic.

dd4 was tested for turners, shes does not have it. but both her and ds1 are very short for age. ds1 is 15 , ds2 is 9 and taller than him (hes not particuarly big either) dd4 is tiny wee thing...she wears 2 year old clothes.

What other tests is dd having?

herjazz · 27/11/2009 19:50

yes my dd has this. She is v tiny

was yr dss treated with growth hormones? I understand this could be an option (bit more complicated in our case cos dd has another hormone problem which kind of clashes with it)

Is yr dd under an endocrinologist?

re the chromosome check - think of it as looking at the big picture - significant duplications and deletions would be apparant from g banding array - but smaller changes would not be picked up like this. More microscopic testing would be needed. Obv they can't test every area of each chromosome in this manner - they'd need to have some idea where to look first (ie combination of features / symptoms might be suggestive of a certain disorder or syndrome)

Also a tiny mutation of a single gene could cause problems - that would not really be detectable at chromosomal level. Tis very needle / haystack

well , dd4 has had the usual chromosome tests and the micro array tests and they all came back " normal" (god i hate that word!). shes under professer Lampe, (edinburgh western).
Her hormones were tested ,(years ago), they came back ok .
DD4 is a mystery , no one can tell us why she is the way she is... .

My DS1 (stepson) was treated with little white tablets....im not sure what they were as was years ago.(his mum sorted that out ).Will need to ask her round for vodka coffee and ask .
I do remember that he was really aneamic , his count was stupidly low.
