Hi my son is 17 months , but he is physical 6 months old , his sight is of a 4 month old , his speech and play are not far off a new born , he failed his hearing so is waiting to be taking in to get a general for more test . He has had an MRI scan done and came back fine . His doctor cant work him out and is trying to get him into hospital for a few days for more test . He just seems to keep goin back wards in everything and i know he has global development delay but dont no what else . Just gets so upsetting at times . He can sit by himself now but this is starting to get not as good , he always smiles but thats about it . I adore my son but i feel like i've let him down by not knowing what is wrong or what his life will be like

Please don't blame yourself.

You are doing all you can to get answers and I hope you get them soon.

You say he smiles always so he is clearly happy and you are a great mum.

global developmental delay is a term usually given when they don't know whats wrong it was what I was told until my son was about 5 Don't blame yourself its nobodies fault.

have they ruled out epilepsy related conditions? Even if not had a fit could be some abnormal epileptic activity going on - i know that can cause regressions. Just a thought I'm not an expert but our son had an ASD regression and we read up about these types of possibilities at the time

Please don't feel guilty, it's not for you to know what his diagnosis is, all he needs is for you to love him and accept him where he is at. Drs know a lot but even after almost 10 years of training, a lot of the time they are just giving the best dignosis they can, it's not often black and white iyswim. It is horrid to be in limbo-land, but after a while even limbo can start to feel nearly normal. (Hope I don't sound patronising and glib)

Thanks i know , he was 1st seen at 9 months old and did learn to sit which was a great sight to see , i always thought his sight and hearing were fine but when test were done should it wasnt . He takes screaming fits when he is out somewhere big and he was sleeping up to 20 hours a day , just hate the stares i get when he is screaming cos he doesnt no what is up , people dont think there can be problems if children look "normal" which i'm sure i would have done in the past thinking a child was spolit , its just the long waiting game that gets to me , but am worrying more the more he goes backwards
