Will you be giving your ASD child the swine flu vaccine?

I gather it has recently been recommended for children over 6 months old (as it has in sweden, where I am).

I'm undecided. DS is 2.5 with mild autism. I'm distinctly uncomfortable with the presence of thiomersal and squalene in pandemerix which is the one he is being offered. Been trying to do the maths - he'll get half a dose, which will contain 1.25mg of mercury. Not sure if that is a significant amount or not - he eats salmon a couple of times a week and sardines 2 or 3 times a week but I really couldn't measure the amounts - maybe he gets more in his food than is contained in the vaccine.

Not sure what the latest view is on the mercury-autism link. I've been reading some old MN threads which link to some studies, but they are around 5 years old now.

Then there's the squalene of course, which I understand may be linked to autoimmune conditions. No family hisory of autoimmune conditions, but not sure if that's relevant or not.

So, what are you going to do?

My son with Autism aged 5 got the swine flu vaccine completing his second one on Fri 13th Nov. He has had no ill effects - you can't event see the site on his arm where the vaccine was administered. A child in his school died of swine flu so that concentrated our minds on what was the best thing to do for him. I notice no change or deterioration at all in him.

I think DS2 (NT) will be getting it but DS1 (ASD) is over 5 now and has no physical vulnerabilities so not likely to get it. So if we all snuff it from swine flu DS2 can have the keys to the house !

No. ds got a call up letter to go on saturday just gone. (he has asthma)
My gut feeling is that ds and dd have had swine flu.

as I understand it there is no thiormisal or squalene in the alternative Calvepan which is the one ds will be having. Please correct me if Im wrong becasue if there is DS wont be having that one either.

That's my understanding too staryeyed - no thiomersal or squalene in Celvapan. Usually reserved for people with severe egg allergies, but some pregnant women have been able to get hold of it too.
