DS went to school today for first time on his own....

DS 4 was deferred from MS school due to having ASD traits. His main problem though is his high anxiety at new situations.

We have been gently introducing DS to school by doing 5 mins at the beginning of school every Monday and Friday. He has also been 3 times with his playschool teacher on a Monday for an hour and whereas it started a bit wobbly he is now doing really well.

Anyway, today was the day that I was going to take him in myself, drop him off and leave him for an hour. This would undoubtedly have ended up in a meltdown a few months ago. I was soooooo nervous

Got him there ok, took him in the classroom where everyone was sitting on the carpet listening to the teacher. His little eyes welled up with tears and I thought "here we go". He then said "bye bye mummy" whilst fighting back the tears and I legged it. I was sooooo proud of him. An hour later and his teacher said he had been fantastic!!!

I am so proud of him

I know its only an hour and we still have the whole lunch saga to tackle (he's terrified of having lunch at school) but its a good start.

PS - the best bit was that 2 of the boys he knew from playschool were practically fighting to sit next to DS. Funnily enough that to me was far more important and thrilling than anything else

Thats great, i hope he had a great time, they always seem to do the opposite to what your expecting them too .

Dd1 is almost 6 and still has a thing about lunch times but enjoys the rest of the day.
