We are now in the process of getting DS his first SN buggy and bed.
Buggy appointment is next week and we like the Jazz Easy and Tom Cross (which I've read is a bit heavy) or Tom streetwise coz they have reversible seats.
Anyone got them? Any others we should be looking at?

For the bed, we are getting (we think, at the mo) a standard profile bed but with enclosed sides. The enclosed sides bit is a seperate thing to the bed and, lots of googling later, I've still no idea what it is!
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks

Pushchair: we have a Lightening buggy - but that will all depend oon how much seating support your lo needs.

Bed: We have a (goes off to have a look) dunno, I can't find the label in the dark so will try googling too! The bed came from the Red Cross, has a wipe-able mattress, wooden head and footboard, sides with mesh panels, and the bed itself is totally adjustable.

If your ds needs safety sides, make sure they are high enough once the bed is tilted into whatever sleeping position he needs: our dd has to be tilted, and some bed sides are not high enough and she has no sense not to throw herself out.

For help and advice on the bed at least, suggest you contact Fledglings. www.fledglings.org.uk

on the buggy front both the jazz easy and the tom cross are nice buggies, we had a jazz easy and were forever getting stopped by non SN parents wanting to know where we got our funky buggy...oh how i laughed!!

on the downside it has a lot of knobs and fiddly bits to adjust it, its also really heavy and we had to change our car as when folded its still pretty huge!

i kinda lost faith in it when a piece of plastic that slides along the frame broke, it connected the backrest and the base and left the backrest hanging to the one side.

we then got an ormesa bug which didnt look as nice, was just as big and heavy but adjusted and came apart much easier and had less bits to break on it!

solite laser is what we have, but with adjustable mesh panelled sides.

It is adjustable and goes up and sown to help get her in and out.

up and down grr!

Oooh! I like that one MMB it seems a lot more compact than the ones I have googled, and the full length rails and padding could be just the ticket!
How high are the sides you've got? Not too much of a worry at the mo as DS cannot sit up (yet!) but he has severe epilepsy and is pretty much blind, so I do worry what'll happen when he gets a bit more independently mobile.

I have been googling your buggy too, but to no avail - keep getting a golf cart

Glittery I may have to compromise a bit on the 'looks' front. I do especially like those because the direction of the seat can be altered and coz they still look like a buggy. But I do want it to make all our lives easier, so I don't want a big fight to change the seat round to forward facing to go out to eat, for example. Not worth the hassle. Off to google the Bug now!

Davros thanks. I already have that website on my favourites, but only look at the clothes and stuff really. TBH, I didn't know they did much else as DS still so tiddly this is our first real venture out into equipmenty things! Will have a good look around now.

Ruth who runs Fledglings is wonderful and so are the other staff. They do all sorts of equipment so, if you can't see what you want, they will advise by phone. They know SO much about products and also they commission things. I know they have info on several bed options.

the bug does face forward or backward but its one or the other as you need an allen key to move the guide rails on the base it slots into, which is quite quick and easy to do but a bit of a faff if you were out and about at the time. it has two levers at the back one to operate the recline and the other for the tilt in space, other that that nothing breakable or fiddly.

MMB'S buggy is supplied by Tendercare who also supply the jazz easy

meltedmarsbars · 18/11/2009 22:15

lightning buggy

oops, glittery got there first.

Its a supportive buggy and clamps into the WAV.

Thanks Glittery!
Am definitely after a reversible one as I need to be able to see DS - what with his seizures 'n'all - most of the time. Would only be swapped round for occasions like eating out/visiting etc. which we don't tend to do without planning to the nth degree and at least a fortnights notice!
Quite like the bug, looks a bit more 'grown up' I think, and DS won't be a baby for that much longer
