DS2 is low functioning asd with possible adhd, he has no speach and very little understanding of what is said to him. We were given a major a fe months back but it just doesn't work for us. H can get out of the harness, also when he is moving tends to go to sleep and those of you who have had one know that it is ust not suitable for that.
Our OT is coming round to talk about othe options an has sugested a wheelchair but I am not keen. My carers support worker has said to se if I can find something I like the look of and tell the OT at the appointment. Only thing is when I google all I seem to be getting is wheelchails or majors,Iknow there are more options out there but can't seem to find them.
Does anyone have any ideas?

There are all different seating & harness systems that you can add to the majors to make them suitable to the childs needs.

Also there are the all terain 3 wheel sn pushchairs, I'm not sure you cna get them fully funded by NHS though, sometimes they will provide part payment or a voucher towards it.
DS2 has had a major & now has a w/chair.
He doesn't fall asleep in the w/chair as he is more upright etc BUT if I don't watch he will lean forward & try & play with the wheels.
He prefers the w/chair.

That is something that worries me abot a wheelchair as ds has a fasination with wheels.

I probabily should sort out different straps to stop him leaning sidewards & reaching down to play with the brakes & wheels.

Ther are ways to overcome it, i've just been a bit slack

The w/cahir is also easier to push, I prefer it if I'm honest.

The Mountain Buggy Terrain is often recommended for older children with special needs. I don't know if they are made anymore but do come up on ebay.
here is one
Apparently the seat back is quite tall and accomodates the older child.

Baby Jogger prams are great. I have one for my DS3 (1 year old) but my large 4 year old (ASD and dyspraxia) can sit in it comfortably.
Mountain buggies are also good, but more pricey.
Not sure how the vouchers work, but Ebay have Baby Joggers for £194 as opposed to the rrp of £369.

Thanks for your advice, I love the idea of either the baby jogger or mountain buggy, only thing is I have a tiny car and have just been turned down for mobility so no sign of a bigger one any time soon.

Baby jogger would be your best bet then.. The wheels come off really easily. I have a small boot, and no problems with taking the wheels on and off.

my dd1 still fits comfortably into our Phil & teds Sport. she's 5.3, and large for her age, and I reckon she's got another year in it yet (whether dd2 will last another year in the bottom seat is another thing - she's 2.9, and we've been lucky to get this far as she's tiny, but she's just had a huuuuuge growth spurt!)

We have a Maclaren Major, Otto bock Kimba spring, Axiom 3 wheeler, wheelchair and also Phil and Ted vibe which my DD who is 9 fits.
