ADD/ADHD/Anxiety natural remedies

Anybody familiar with 'Native Remedies' products in the case of ADD/ADHD/Anxiety children? Or any other natural treatments?

We went through 4 psychological/psychiatrical assesments, got confusing diagnosys, no ADHD but snesorial issues, no sensorial issues but Adhd, no Adhd but anxiety, none of the above but check again for the cost of 'only' 1500 euros ... take this treatment for anxiety; no this treatment is no good, don't even think about it, and so on and so on.
I'm tired of assesments, tired of throwing money out of the window, so i thought i would just try some natural remedies for a while, see how they work, at least until our wallets refill

I read a lot of good reviews of the products offered by a company called 'Native Remedies'. Any experience with them? Please help, or i just give up for now and helplessly look at my daughter jumping around like an uncontrollable 2 years old when she is almost 7 ...

I have never tried anything herbal, due to ds not liking smells and tastes.

I do however use pressure and massage to calm him down. Sorry no experience of native remedies, but im sure someone has.

No experience either but would be particularly interested in anything that could help with anxiety....

i started from somewhere else ... googling around for days and days, and i mean, really hard work since there is a lot of crap on sale out there, but after a while settled for this www.adhdchildparenting.com/adhd-natural-treatment.php and decided to investigate further. it can only ... waste my own time which i am willing to invest in DD if i can help her

We have not tried anything herbal but do find fish oils help a little in reducing impulsiveness and hyperactivity for ds. He also seems to do better on a cooked breakfast although I cannot remember the name of the writer (a chiropractor I think) whos theory set this pattern off for us. like claw we use sensory techniques to reduce some behaviours. Hope you find something that works for your dd.

I have researched their products and the women who 'designed' them (my son has ADHD). I contacted the British Homeopathic Society about them and their reply was as follows:

"We are not able to advise on products, but you may be able to you get some information from one of the homoeopathic pharmacies such as Nelsons or Weleda. As the product is American, you could also try contacting the national centre for homoeopathy in the United States, www.homoeopathic.org. I can send you an article called The Hyperactive Child from our magazine ' Health and Homoeopathy ' written by Dr Marysia Kratimenos who is based at the Royal London Homoeopathic Hospital in Great Ormond Street. You would need your GP to refer you to the hospital for treatment. We do have some faculty members practising in South Africa . Our website will give a list of all of our members www.britishhomoeopathic.org".

I also made enquiries to the equivalent body in South Africa where she comes from and they were able to confirm that Michelle Carelse is registered with the HPCSA as a clinical Psychologist.

However, I was warned verbally NEVER to purchase any medicines for children on-line. If I were you I'd visit the BHS in London via your GP if oyu are looking for a 'natural' approach. Hope this all makes sense and helps

It's amazing how our 'worlds' are NOT conected, meaning that things that are properly researched in US are still not available in Europe, and probably the other way around.... and it's only the kids who have to suffer.
Never to purchase any medicines for children on-line? Why? As long as you know the producer, the shop selling it and their shipping conditions?!

Because there are many, many 'black ' market' suppliers on-line. How do you know the authenticity of an on-line shop in the US or anywhere else in the world ? Think it would be safer, if you are looking for a homeopathic alternative for your child, to go via your GP and visit an approved specialist in the UK. By the way, have you read the ingredients of those tablets? They have Strychnine in them along with several other v. dodgy herbs/plants. I can list them if you need to know more. Talking of alternatives ... have you tried cranial osteopathy ? It did wonders for my ds.

joburg · 19/11/2009 05:34

Thank you ICANDOTHAT, never heard of cranial osteopathy but will certainly look into it. Unfortunately we are not Europe, which makes things very complicated.
I thought of Native Remedies because i found them recommended on quite a few ADHD support sites, not related to any selling online activities. Strychnine? They don't have anything like this on the ingredients list (which i allways read, even if i buy just a fish tin).
So, i'd better go and do some more research now ...

Hi, my ds is 10 and has been diagnosed with ADHD 3 years ago. Have tried so many things. The biggest difference came with changing his diet. I removed ALL artificial colourings, additives (and where possible, unnecessary preservatives) from his diet. A real eye opener. I read E For Additives by Maurice Hanssen (old out of print book).

It made a massive difference.

I keep getting told to give him fish oils for at least 3 months, but I can't find any ones that don't have artificial colourings etc that don't taste revolting & that he will try......

After fighting against Ritalin for so long and trying to search for the perfect answer, finally persuaded to try it in May. Also helped him, without him becoming a zombie!!

Hope it helps.

I have been giving our son Focus Formula from Native remedies for a couple of months now. I am sure that this, along with lots of positive reinforcement at school and also memory training at junglememory.com and piano lessons (!) have all helped to get him to focus a bit more. He has 8 drops of Focus Formula in some fruit juice at breakfast as he could detect the taste in water and it wasn't very nice apparently!
Still, we are going to trial conerta in the Easter holidays to see if it helps with the social situations a bit, especially as he will start a new school in September and we don't want him to get off on the wrong foot behaving like a clown...

Triggles · 16/02/2011 21:45

We have been giving DS2 the fish oils (omega 3-6-9? yeh, too tired to get up and go read the bottle Grin) and we bought it at Boots. Was about £12-13 per big bottle, but it's liquid (no chance of getting DS2 to take a tablet, I can barely get liquids in him!) with an orange flavour, so we put it in his morning orange juice. Grin

I'm not sure if we've noticed a difference or if it's just wishful thinking, to be honest.

We've discussed the whole "all natural" food things, but my god he is so incredibly picky about what he will eat, I think it might be impossible at this point. Perhaps when he is a bit older and more amenable (one can hope, eh? Wink)

We discussed piano lessons as well, using numbering techniques as he is fascinated with numbers. I can give him piano lessons so that's not a problem, it's just finding a piano (most likely an electric one) and actually finding the room in the house to put it! LOL

We bought a mini-trampoline and he does work out a bit of energy jumping on it. Makes me tired just watching him! Grin

Things which have worked a bit for us are:

  • Omega Fish Oil
  • Epsom Bath Salts
  • A hot bath every night - where he talks to me
  • A trampoline
  • Rescue Remedy

All of these are relatively cheap and have had some effect.

The things which have had the biggest effect on him - but are expensive are:

  • Auditory Integration Training
  • Retained Reflexes Therapy

(Retained Reflex Therapy says it's retaining the Moro Reflex which causes the excessive anxiety. And for us it appears that getting rid of the Moro Reflex has dramatically helped DS)

(My DS has ASD not ADHD - but the symptom which causes him the most grief is Anxiety)

But I think starting with vitamin supplements you find on the internet is a good idea. If it doesn't work, you can always stop them...
