My ds has hypotonia resulting in a delay in gaining head control and cant sit at all unaided. Hes 5mths and I would love to skip purees and go to BLW when hes 6mths BUT is it possible? Has anyone else tried with SN kiddies. He can just about grasp and does get his hands to his mouth. We're waiting to see a SALT for assessment but just wondered what other MN's had done. He shows no signs of wanting food yet, so no hurry to wean, thank goodness!

could you get a seat that gives head controll, I would think if he is in the right seating position you would be able to try it.
how is he with drinking milk, does he have any problems?

could you just hold off a bit until his motor control is a bit better? there's no law that says 6 months and if waiting a few extra weeks gives him a beter chance of getting hand to mouth than it would be worth it, imo.

I'd be more worried about oral motor delays, and chewing issies, but if he's okayed by the OT/SALT then I don't see why not if he's in a supportive enough chair.

I had to go the other way with dd1 due to motor delays, and sensory issues, and so she was spoon fed (mostly rough chopped, moving on to bigger lumps well after 18 months) until she was about 2.6...

He is fine drinking his milk, although he splutters a bit when given a rare bottle but ok on breast. We do have a corner chair which should be great for eating when hes ready. No idea whether he will be able to chew, although he will have a good go on your finger given half the chance! Same goes for drinking from a cup. The chair would be no good for giving a bottle as I wouldnt be able to angle it properly I think.

Just wondered what others experiences were. Never done BLW before, sounds rather messy!!

it was a long time ago that I did all this with dd(she is 14) now, but have to say I was itching to move her on to solids as she was so slow with milk.
I don't know much about BLW but could you start him on both? dd had trouble with chweing so a bit different, but I think I would being doing that now iynwim
