SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Which SN organisations would you like to see MN build relationships with?

Hello all

OBM and I are helping MNHQ to build some relationships with campaigning and third sector organisations, and SN is a big gap in our knowledge. It would be great if you could tell us which organisations are useful/important to you, and we'll try to get in contact with them and think how we could work together.

See the stickie in Active Convos for more information.

Thanks!

Well I would say Mencap.

Cerebra.

unique

herjazz · 13/11/2009 14:40

unique would be good btw not just as sn resource but also for support re fertility / conception. Chromo abnormailities like balanced reciprocal translocations are common cause of ftc / miscarriage. Estimated 1 in 500 people may be affected so not that unique really

Treehouse would have my vote - it's a school for autistic children, using ABA behavioural methods, but it's also a charity for all aspects of autism and has been a great force on the campaigning trail.

Also would be good to see MN get involved in established campaigns like Every Disabled Child Matters and Changing Places etc

MrsMuddle · 13/11/2009 16:32

Whatever ones you connect with, can you make sure that you connect with the Scottish equivalent too, if they don't cover Scotland?

ie, Mencap only covers England, Wales and NI.

MumOfThreeMonkeys · 13/11/2009 17:02

just to add to mrsmuddle could you make sure you connect with the northern irish equivalent too- please

policywonk · 13/11/2009 17:21

parent partnership services - statutory services in every LA offering information, advice and support around education for parents/carers of children with SEN
www.parentpartnership.co.uk

The National organistion is based at the council for disabled children (as is Every Disabled Child Matters) I'm the national development worker, currently on maternity leave.
For more organisations i'd go the the DCSF parents page.
