Goldenhar syndrome ?

We've just acquired dd's notes from her paediatrician as we will need her medical history to register with a UK doctor. Among the correspondence from an opthamologist we consulted aged 2 months for a dermoid on her eye is mention of Goldenhar Syndrome. Having Googled there are lots of potentially associated symptoms, few if any she has, but some of which may be traced through my family. I also wonder if this explains why she was referred so quickly aged 4 months for a kidney and bladder tests following a UTI as problems there can also be associated. All tests were clear.

I don't know whether our then paediatrician subsequently eliminated it (he has moved on) as noone has raised it since, or if it is something that should be followed up - be it now 3 1/2 years later ! She is happy, healthy (apart from current chickenpox!) and bright.

Anyone else had this as a suggested diagnosis ?

no, but definitely ask the paediatrician about it.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about Goldenhar syndrome, but I do know that, here in the UK anyway, it is standard practice for a child or baby of any age to have kidney/bladder investigations done if they have a UTI. If a child has continuing low-grade infection due to some sort of drainage problem like obstruction, this can end up causing kidney failure if it isn't sorted out. IME most investigations do tend to come back normal though. Our ds2 has been on preventive antibiotics since he was days old and is fine.

I teach a child with Goldenhar syndrome, and i'm sure it would have been raised again if the doctor thought it was indicated. The child I teach has a lot of related medical problems and has been under constant medical supervision because of Goldenhar since birth.
