Weighted Balnket - for free

MelonCauli · 03/11/2009 19:43

I have a weighted blanket if anyone would like it. I would prefer pick up from the Northants area or I would be willing to post for the cost of postage. However due to its weight the postage may be quite high.

It is not a full bed sized one, more half size. It has Scooby Doo on it. A very kind Mumsnetter gave it to me a year or so ago, so I am passing it on.

i would really appreciate this for my ds, he has asd and has started using a weighted blanket at school but we cannot afford one for home. I can pay postage as i live in leicestershire.

devientenigma · 03/11/2009 19:45

I would of loved it should I of been closer. Do you know the cost of postage by any chance.

MelonCauli · 03/11/2009 20:01

that sounds good meloncauli, email me sammylj78 at hotmail dot com and we can sort it out. thanks

Seuss · 03/11/2009 21:15

Starlight - you could sew the rice in a duvet cover and then put inside another cover that you could take off and wash. Wouldn't it take a heck of a lot of rice though? Or are you only supposed to sew pockets or something? Someone once suggested curtain weights sewn in a duvet to me but I haven't tried it.(Also not great at sewing!)

MelonCauli · 03/11/2009 21:15

Thanks Starlight. I will keep an eye out for one and let you know if I hear of anything.

I found this on another forum, hope it helps someone. Not quite free but a hell of a lot cheaper than buying one.

Seuss · 04/11/2009 07:19

The pockets in the quilt makes more sense! Have to say I would love to see someone out and about with a blanket covered in stapled on boil in the bag rice!

I was going to try and make one (the more conventional method) but I think I could end up traumatising the poor kid.

lou031205 · 04/11/2009 19:35

This is the one I'm going to try

blossomhill · 04/11/2009 21:30

You can apply to Cerebra for sensory equipment. Am just in the process of getting a blanket, jacket and wobble cushion. They give you a grant but you have to have 2 medical references HTH

magso · 05/11/2009 10:44

(thanks for the pattern lou, have made a weighted lap cushion with dried bean and a bit of quilting but ofcourse it cannot be washed - will try again wth wiegted beads)

misscutandstick · 05/11/2009 18:14

wow what a fantastic idea!!! a 2-in-1 device...

For all those kids on a CF/GF diet, wondering the streets trying to find food on the go, all to no avail - YOU HAVE COME UP WITH THE PERFECT ANSWER!!!

(desperately trying to come up with some catchy name, but nothing is coming to mind blanket-with-rice-stapled-it doesnt roll off the tongue )
