DD2 has visual and auditory processing disorder. She is only 2yrs but we've been very lucky in that we had a great OT who put her on a sensory diet and a course of Therapeutic listening (www.vitallinks.net) and she is massively better. She now has very slight processing issues, if any.

Something I was recommended for visual processing was a 'behavioural Optometrist'. I personally never went as the Therapeutic Listening worked so well for us. It might be worth looking into, although it might be expensive.

Who dx'd your DS? If you don't have one, find a sensory trained OT have a sensory assessment done and techniques put in place according to what the assessment showed up. Also, I thoroughly recommend 'The out of sync child' and 'The out of sync child has fun'. The latter especially is great for games to play to help the various sensory processing difficulties.

He has been seen by an educational psychologist and a behavioral optometrist. I have given the reports to the school and the senco is involved but they dont really seem to know much about this area. thats why i was wondering how other parents faired with their children. i will look up those sites you mentioned tho. thanks

My DD2 age 13 has just been diagnosed with visual processing disorder. No visual memory and huge difficulties copying information off the board at school. At 11+ she got into 3 top independent schools in our area so she's fairly bright but grades have been crashing since start of Y7. Post EP report she is allowed laptop and extra 25% in exams. She can now touchtype, we're doing memory games with her at home eg Acuity + lots online; optometrist says her sight is fine she just needs a mint green overlay to help reading speed; found great OT via www.maximumpotential.co.uk who is working on her poor muscle tone and vestibular system. Visual processing therapist is next. It's a whole new world but so glad we have an explanation for her difficulties... school SENCO now being vg and NB schools have a legal duty to be supportive and put new procedures in place. Would like to hear from anyone else with similar teenager.

Can I ask what the disorder is? How do tell if a child has it?
