OMG! I hoped this was your thread, JimJams

Absolutely fantastic - even if he doesn't do it again for a while

Twiglett · 10/06/2005 21:54

am I missing something though .. isn't the 'eye contact' in its own right a huge thing .. or has he been doing that a while too

I think its amazing and its not an odd one-off occasion so wow

dottee · 10/06/2005 21:56

Wonderful news Jimjams!

pixel · 10/06/2005 21:59

Absolutely wonderful news. Weren't you only saying the other day something about assuming he wouldn't talk so as not to be disappointed? (5 yr deadline etc). Just goes to show our children always have surprises in store!

FAB FAB FAB - can you hear me cheering from here

TheRealMrsF · 10/06/2005 22:25

Maybe he's 'stored' enough words now and has 'played them in his mind' enogh to try them out.
Hope it continues...bit by bit....must be hard for you to stay calm when he says things...i know with my boys (though nothing to do with speech!!!!) - if i go over the top with praise they hate it...they hate me 'going crazy' as Tom calls it when they achieve some small step that was previously a struggle...i bet you want to squeal with delght...or you do a 'double take' to check you weren't hearing things!!!!

mum38 · 10/06/2005 22:54

that's really great!! It must be an amazing feeling to hear him...

ScummyMummy · 10/06/2005 23:17

Fantastic Jimjams. Wonderful news - now use those simple RDI techniques... and believe it. I am so pleased for you - I know how it feels to finally see some speech. Wonderful feeling.

dot1 · 11/06/2005 08:35

I got goosebumps when I read this!!! Sooooooooo thrilled for you - and just on the edge of my seat waiting for more posts about words. Must be exciting/scary for you at the moment - keep us posted!

tigermoth · 11/06/2005 08:43

oh, I hoped this was you, jimjams and it was I guess you've just got to wait and see where this leads, especailly as you think it may happen in stops and starts.

Remember me telling you about that family I met on the ferry two summers ago? They had two young autistic sons, the oldest was 5.5 and he was talking quite a lot, very clearly and logically. His mum said he had only just started talking in the last few months. I did think of you and your son at the time.

I hope your ds says some nice things to you!

well no more speech- just 2 oh so hilarious wees on the floor this morning (had stopped doing that). As always one step forward, 2 back- which is why I don't ever get excited these days.

OP posts:
ScummyMummy · 11/06/2005 09:57

He can do it and I'll be very surprised if he doesn't it again and much more in time, babe. Irritating weeing on the floor notwithstanding.

TheRealMrsF · 11/06/2005 10:07

That makes great sense to me....don't know what it would be called in the text books etc...but it's like some kind of overload i suppose...in that it's probably difficult for him to co-ordinate so much ....you seem at ease accepting 'whatever...Whenever"...and i know you don't 'fast forward' to the future and therefore in time if he does gradually use more words then it's a 'bonus'.

i hope this makes sense...often i WANT to post on YOUR threads...but feel doubtful whether my thoughts are any use!!!! .
I do try to take YOU and DAVROS off the Pedalstool.....but am affraid i cannot!!! I hope one day to meet you both...so that then i can believe that you are 'Only Human'!!!!!!

However ...if you ever need advice on Hoarding,Obsessive/Compulsive moving of furniture or the 1001 Uses of A Storage Boxes,Laminaters & Jiffy Bags......then that's where i excel!!!!

Fio2 · 11/06/2005 15:34

excellent

ladymuck · 11/06/2005 18:48

Great news - hope this continues!

shey · 11/06/2005 19:04

so pleased for you...............how old is ds? I have a 3.7 yr old yet to say anything other than 'no'.

zebraZ · 11/06/2005 19:06

Her DS is 6... or 7.

YogiYahooey · 11/06/2005 19:07

For he's a jolly good fellow .....

zebraZ · 11/06/2005 19:15

ps: I know you don't want to get your hopes up, Jimjams, but I was really happy to hear the news. Whatever happens next.
