Nervous...

This is not about dd and probably not a special need ( well might be). I recently applied for a part time teaching position for the next school year so I could return to work part time. OUr plan is to get back to Aus as soon as possible and I need to go back to work to do it.

Well this morning I was notified that I have been called for interview and I am petrified. I can't remember the last time I interviewed. To get my only other teaching job in the UK, I interviewed in Australia and they desperately needed staff. Prior to that I interviewed at the start of my teaching career about 11 yrs ago.

I am so nervous...... This is also the only part time job going in my area ( other than supply teaching and I really don't want to do that.) We could really do with me getting the job.

So think of me on the 5th of June....Ohhh must remember to wear my lapel pin promoting Down syndrome awareness too!!!

Don't forget to do something that will make you feel more confident just before the interview, like a haircut, or a massage. If you feel good it will show. Good luck.

thanks for that sobernow - unfortunately wussy handshakes are not my style but I will remember to make sure. My husband thinks I will be a novelty value for a start being an aussie... just trying to check out more info on the school and then think of questions to ask them.

eidsvold, good luck for the 5th. There are some great interview tips on this thread here

eidsvold · 25/05/2003 20:25

thanks so much for that link www.

I even managed to sort out some questions that I want to ask.

I knew I would get some great ideas. However having said that dh who has spent a lot of time interviewing people for a variety of positions has asked me if I want to practise interviewing.... Might take him up on it.

I think I will be fine once I get there but it is the anticipation of what is to come. Having had no experience of the public/church school system here in the UK puts me at a little disadvantage HOWEVER have taught in a number of schools - varying sizes and socio economic status that should be an advantage I guess.

Well I did not get the job -it came down to me and an internal candidate and I think the senior person would have had me in a flash. All the feedback I got was very positive - basically that I had a very strong and impressive cv which showed a depth and breadth of experience. Came across very positively and strong in terms of what they were looking for. They really could not say exactly what it was that stopped me from being chosen... so i think the fact that the sucessful candidate was a known quantity. He also told me on leaving should anything not work out he would be calling me immediately and he wishes he had two positions so that I could have one. ( Never had that parting comment so positive experience.)

Hey had a little cry and figure there is something better out there for me.

ThomCat · 05/06/2003 18:04

Oh sorry mate, tempted to say it obviously wasn't for you and there's something much better out there for you and all that other cliched but IMO very true stuff. Sorry you didn't get this particular job, next time aye, xx

eidsvold · 05/06/2003 21:22

just wanted to say how much I appreciate you guys...

Hardly anyone gets a job when they are up against a reasonable internal candidate IME. It had nothing to do with you, I'm sure. If it was, he would never have said what he did. they obviously think you're great. And you never know, there's a big turnover of jobs these days and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they got back in touch with you.

eidsvold · 12/06/2003 07:51

I contacted my old boss and asked about the possibility of me returning full time - not the best but the only way we can afford to do it... and am waiting for him to get back to me - apparently however the head of the english department told a friend of mine that I was coming back?!?! They are losing three teachers in the department so it is not like they have not got the space for me!! SO will call him later today and see what is up.

We decided that we really needed to get some money behind us when we go to Aus and if I work full time we can do that within the year. That also means we can afford dd's nursery and to keep the second car and to have a holiday sometime before we head home to live. It also means at the other end we can spendsome time settling into life in Aus and as a family without the pressure of rushing to find work when we arrive.

Now I just have to sort out a nursery place.... hopefully the brilliant nursery we have dd on the waiting list still has places full time. Must call them today.

Ohhh from part time for something to do to full time to achieve our goals.. big step. Watch this space for the 3rd Sept - the upset mother and happy baby off to nursery/school!!
