DS is 3.10 and mild asd, he always had a kind of manic laughter.
He will often laugh for no reason that we can see

It's peculiar really and the way he does laugh so wildly and loud i find people look at him sometimes and grin. He always goes over the top with it iykwim?

When people giggle including kids , ds who more often than not hasn't got a clue as to why others are laughting, start his maniaco laugh and he keeps this up for ages , somedays it's almost constant all i hear is him laughting his head off...and it's grating on my nerves after a while.
I try to tell him to stop , he does , but soon starts again.

Is this something asd kids do?
I know NT kids can get the fits of giggles too, but honestly DS is ott with it, and i can recall ds1 doing it.

oh my, what have I started?

From reading biomed forums it seems there are many children with these symptoms.

Can I just share something; Ds has been very sound sensitive for months covering his ears throughout the day at all sorts of noises, phone ringing, certain TV jingles, especially the cocoposp advert. Today that advert came on TV. Usually he covers his ears and shrieks running out of the room. He watched it today without flinching. I then realised that he hasn't covered his ears in quite a few days (He is back on the old enzymes that really worked for him). He did cover his ears when DS2 cried but then DS2 really screams so I cant blame him.

Pipin Jo, can i ask you what you mean by "midwife said: super observant as well!" ?

Curious because that was said by our HV and GP at ds's 8 weeks postnatal check up.
It's ingraved in my mind because i felt sort of proud att. GP said jokingly " how old is this child? he is so aware look at that!"
And yes DS as a baby was super observant and aware of things around him.

wow - just been looking at my son's (ASD age 5) scalp again wondering why he still has cradle cap and I stumble on this thread ! His is not too bad atm but is yellow and not dry iyswim.

He also has just started a manic laugh - I think he is just trying to copy when other people laugh but doesn't know the cues for when he should do it. He started doing it yesterday on his 2nd day at school when the headmaster was talking about something totally unfunny - had to shush him quick !

He doesn't spin but recently seems to be worse with the running backwards and forwards, flapping and humming incessantly. Interesting to read other peoples experiences and of the biomed approaches.

We've just started trying to reintroduce some foods that we removed from DS2's diet as a toddler, because it was suggested they might be implicated in his eczema and because some of them came up positive in a skinprick test, which I've since found out is very unreliable in young children! We've started with egg - just half a slice of Sainsbury's gf French bread every day, which has egg white in it. I have to keep a record every day for 14 days of changes in skin, bowels or behaviour.

After five days he is definitely more spacey, hands over ears, less responsive, less verbal, more grumpy, bowels erratic, snotty, had accident at school yesterday for first time in six months. But of course he has also just started back at school, so I'm really unsure whether it's this or the egg. And complicating things even further is the fact that he often doesn't drink his juice+ supplements at school. I just think that the tiniest things can affect our children so much
