Hi,im new on here and just thought i'd say a quick hello,it's been good to find this forum.
I have 5 children altogether. My eldest daughter is 11 and quadraplegic with extensive global brain damage. I also have a son who is 7 and on the autistic spectrum,he has an expressive and receptive speech disorder and mild dsypraxia. He does however attend mainstream school.
I don't work as my eldest daughter doesn't attend school and i'm her full time carer.
I have recently started to recieve direct payments that have allowed me to do some voluntary work for Home Start which i really enjoyed.
Anyway after almost 12 years of our family life being constantly punctuated with hospital visits,O.T's,Portage,Speech Therapist,Phsyio's,social services etc etc i thought it might be nice to finally hear of other parents who are going through and been through similar.
It's good to finally feel like i'm not the odd one out somewhere.
Take care all, Jo x

Hi Jo, welcome to the SN board. I have two kids, DD is 5 with severe speech and language problems, DS is 2 and appears to be fine. My daughter is also at mainstream (in France) but she gets 12 hours 1-to-1 as of this September, yay!

hi i have a dd nearly 6 who is on teh spectrum (HFA or Aspergers and ODD) and I home ed her., She went to ms school in September last year for about 7 months but her behaviour deteriorated rapidly becoming very destructive and violent on a daily basis so we took her out and decided to he as we believe any school environment would be too much stimulus fo rher at this stage. Things have improved a lot since taking her out but it is hard when you he as you dont get any time out really. At the minute as soon as she's going to bed i'm drafting out stuff for the next few months re her education - what we going to do etc. Its neverending but worth it for the changes in her and seeing her so less stressed. WElcome to teh board Jo.
