My son has Hemiplegia

Hi
My son has just been diagnosed as having right-side Hemiplegia. Basically, this is a mild form of brain damage, affecting his right side, which occured during pregnancy. He has just turned 3 and is a wonderful little boy. We thought he was just a toe-walker and would grow out of it, but after being thoroughly examined by the senior peadiatric physiotherapist at our local hospital, he was diagnosed as having this. Apparently you cannot find out when, why, or how it happened, therefore we won't be able to claim compensation. I was also told that it was very common, affecting 1 in 1000 children.

I would like to ask if anybody else has been affected by Hemiplegia, whether they are the sufferer, or the relative of one, as I haven't found anybody yet who has been.

Hi, we have a son recently diagnosed with right hemi. He's 22 months old. Like you, we thought he'd just grow out of the toe walking and never considered it would be caused by something like this. We're still a bit up and down at the moment and currently wading through the DLA forms. Thankfully to date, it seems only to be affecting his walking and his right arm which is not as bad as his leg. Have you found www.hemihelp.org? It's really helpful.

Hi, I just wondered if anyone who commented here has any advice now you’re further down the line? My daughter is 6 and has just been diagnosed. Thanks.
