How does your DC get to school?

We have been offered a taxi pick up even although the school is very close to us. I say 'offered' but the school seemed surprised that I would even consider bringing him myself. Actually he loves taxis and it probably would free up more time for me but I don't like the feeling of being pushed into it. A trivial moan by the standards of this board I suppose. I do know we are lucky really but you still want to feel consulted....

I take Lucy as it's pretty local even if not the school used by our village because I like to see and speak to the LSA. Jack is taxied in every day but his school is 30 miles away so not realistic to take him myself.

dd goes on a mini bus, but the her school is 16 miles away

ds will be wlking well i will an dhe ride in his chair .He is going t try local ms where dd is to.And for me itsgoing to be the chance t be able to monitor closely and liase with Lsa see how he copes

Taxi or bus, dependng on how many are travelling in his direction, about 5 miles away. When he was at local mainstream, I just walked/drove him.
I do value the pick up though as it does give me about two hours of childcare per day which is very useful indeed -otherwise the school day is very much shorter than you think!
Why not try a halfway house - you could drop off but have ds dropped home or vice versa? We've had lots of flexible arrangements in the past as long as you give plenty of notice.

J could get transport as he is Statemented and we live out of catchment, but it is on my way to work and I do like to see the other parents/ catch his TA etc.

Think its SN policy with Glasgow city council,TBH.
im in North Lanarkshire but ds is going to a Glasgow school so NLC asked what i wanted as i used to take him to his nursery in Cumbernauld.
I picked a taxi so i can go back to bed if he's had me up all night!

I have been given forms to fill in, for ds, who starts P1 next week..but I also have a dd at the same school, I take her to school, so we are going to see how it goes. My dd gets out 30 mins later this term than ds, so I couldn't opt for transport for ds, because I would be leaving to collect dd as he arrived home, so pointless to have a drop off really. It is a 20 min walk for me, can be an hour with ds, but he has been so good lately, that I am just hoping it works.....

Wh/ch in Taxi for the sn school, in my trusty A-Team WAV for the mainstream days with my other kids. I had the option of taxi for the ms too, but I'm going there anyway - it just means we don't walk on the days dd2 is there.

Thanks for all the advice. I talked it over with DH last night and the outcome of the Summit meeting was that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages. All the other children come by taxi so would not meet any parents that way. I would have to take DS2 (2.8) with me so would be difficult to engage a staff member in deep and meaningful discussions. DS1 loves taxis and it would make him feel important. I think gliittery is right, it's a city wide policy.

ds also loves taxis and is very much looking forward to having his own!

And the taxi driver and escort love the kids!!
