Anyone heard of it? Used it? Evidence? Experiences?

BIBIC have recommended it for our 2.9yo ds who has severe language delay & auditory inattention/processing disorder.

Ask them for evidence if they have recommended it.

You're right!

Feel like I've entered a parallel universe with everyone offering extremely expensive 'solutions' & I have no idea what to do

It's a confusing time and easy to grasp at straws.
This checklist for any prospective therapy may help.

  1. What is treatment program's rationale and purpose?
  1. Is there written info?
  1. What is involved for child and family?
  1. What is length of treatment, frequency of sessions, and time and cost to family?
  1. Does the treatment focus on one skill or is it a cmprehensive program?
  1. Will the treatment result in harm to the child?
  1. Is the treatment developmentally appropriate?
  1. What is the background and training experience of the staff?
  1. Do the treatment staff allow family input?
  1. Are assessment procedures specified amd is the program individualised for each child?

  2. How will progress be measured? (VITAL)

  3. How often will effectiveness of the intervention be evaluated?

  4. Whoi will conduct the evaluations?

  5. What criteria will be used to determine if treatment should be continued or abandoned?

  6. What scientific evidence supports the effectiveness of the program? (VITAL)

  7. How will failure of treatment affect child and family?

  8. How will treament be integrated into current program?

I've taken that from this excellent book which i would strongly recommend to anyone seeking additional/alternative therapies for children with special needs, and certainly not just Autistic kids and ABA.

It is excellent at helping a parent come to an informed and measure decision.

It's a difficult time and whatever you do will be bloody hard work. There is no treatment with a greater evidence base than ABA. Have a look at my question on this thread and also my link to an this excellent book

If your child is only 2.9 then any "diagnosis" of auditory processing disorder someone may have given you is wrong. APD is a medical diagnosis and none of the tests should be carried out before the age of 6 at the earliest. This is because of immaturity of the auditory pathway.
