Free Entry for Carers

Hi,

Just thought i'd let anyone in Staffordshire know that Shugborough Hall and Estate offers free entry to carers for the whole site! Now when a site ticket costs £12 per adult its quite a nice saving.

We didnt have to provide proof of entitlement but i took it along just in case.

So, DD, friend, friends DS and myself had a lovely few hours wandering around for free!

I also believe that Chester Zoo offers free entry for Carers.

Anyone know of any others? Feel free to share the info.

The majority of the time I don't get asked for any proof, and if I do then I usually show my carers ID or childs blue badge. A DLA form should be fine though.

Morning :)

Just had to register again as password re-set was not working!

I have booked a holiday to disneyland paris. I noticed a comment about disneyland pairs, what discount do they do?

I receive dla high rate care for my daughter & careers allowance.
Any advice would be great. Thanks

M x

never noticed , someone posted before me and put this thread right at the top of the board.

PearlyWhites · 25/07/2013 12:43

Polter your post sounded a bit sarcastic, I wasn't criticising the poster re Chester zoo just letting people know carers could get in free in case they were planning a visit.
Anyway as it is the summer it would be useful to start this thread off again.

Twinlakes in Melton mowbray. Talk the dla letter and they'll let one adult in free with the group, as the assumed carer, plus a reduced fee for the disabled child.

Sunnymeg · 25/07/2013 12:54

Roman Baths in ..... Bath, free carer ticket

Don't forget about the Cinema Exhibitiors Card either, free entry for a carer when you take DC to the Cinema. Costs £5 a year I think for the actual card, valid at all cinemas in UK. It does mean you can't book online with some chains in order to get the free ticket though.

beldaran · 25/07/2013 14:45

Ohhh had completely forgotten about this thread. It's all good information to bump up.

I can confirm that Shugborough is still free, though the last time we went we brought an annual pass which was free for me and DD, then only paid for 1 guest pass which means i can take DH, DM or DD's carer whenever i want!

Also, was just researching Warwick Castle this morning and they do reduced rates for the disabled person and their carer.

Hi! It just so happens....I was looking at Merlin passes (we are planning a jam packed summer holiday!), and it says that anyone who is disabled pay full and a carer who looks after them 'full time' get a complimentary free ticket on the day so isn't a named person and transferable. This seems the norm for all Merlin attractions whether buying a Merlin pass or not. For most attractions blue badges are no good or DLA letter, a diagnosis letter seems to be what they want as the staff "are not medically qualified" to know what the medical issue entails, which will cover all of their policy details. Please don't jump on me if I mis-read anything we haven't done this before so just looking around at the moment! There are also stamps which help you avoid the queues. For the remainder of the day I will mostly be looking at other places too! Grin

beldaran I only just got to warwick castle, it was the bottom of the list Smile. Didn't know you could use nectar points to buy the tickets??...not that it has anything to do with this thread! ha ha

PearlyWhites · 25/07/2013 16:05

That's rubbish that you have had to use a doctors letter, I have always used. Dla letter as attractions seem to accept that as being " registered disabled"

PearlyWhites · 25/07/2013 16:06

Just reread my post I didn't mean you were talking rubbishBlush I meant it is rubbish of the attractions to need a doctors letter.

Lovetea · 25/07/2013 16:19

Is there a carers ID card to use as proof? Or something similar?

beldaran · 25/07/2013 16:53

I take the DLA/CA forms with me...but it would be always be a good idea to ring the customer service line of where you are going before you go.

Bit of a weird one, but Warhammer World in Nottingham has always bent over backwards for us when we've gone with DD...they have a lift and even let us rearrange most of Bugmans Bar so she was comfortable (its all DH's fault!).

puxton park (weston super mare) reasonable discount for disabled person, and 'essential carer' free, (ds had a fab day there.)

Steam museum (Swindon) ;trains etc... good discount for disabled person and free carer, (we bought the year pass for ds, as we can only go for short trips if it is busy, so we 'pop in' when it opens and shoot off before it gets busy, nice staff, )
