as title really...

DS5 (3yrs) has a largish 'dimple' at the top of his bum cheeks at the bottom of his spine. I happened to come across an article which mentioned that its usually formed because of v.mild spina bifida! OMG i was truly amazed, kept on reading and apparently its unlikely to cause any problems if they havent been spotted so far. the article mentioned that as many as 10% of the public have this misformed vertebra.

I always thought it was just cute - but hey i thought his 'commando crawling' was cute too and look where that got him!

anyone elses DC with a dimple in the same place?

My son has got one. Nobody at the hospital commented when he was born. His dad has got one too - when he was a baby the doctors decided it was nothing to worry about.

OMG!

I was starting to panic about my DD2 'dimple' and then I read 5inthebed's comments & PMSL!

Funny how comments about 'poo' cheer me up no end!

Glad to be of service

Don't worry leonie, none of theasd ones has it here either pmsl- ds2 was supposed to be the NT one (well there's a toddler who seems NT atm but ds3 regressed)- do you think I get extra saint points if I can throw in a physical disability as well as the ASD's?

Its quite a coincidence that alot of children with special needs have a sacral dimple, well thats the impression im getting...my son has one too and he is being assessed at the moment. I have friends with children who do not have any problems and none have ever mentioned dimples before.I wonder if there is a connection....only going on by what i have read here.

Peachy · 02/06/2009 15:58

DS2 has one of these and he has a chromosome abnormality, but we hadn't given it any thought other then when he was born and the pead checked it out, but said it was fine.

DD3 has a deep dimple just above her bumhole; no sn though as far as we know!
It's DD2 has aspergers.

MatNanPlus · 06/06/2009 16:48

Worked for a family and both children had the very deep and low dimple literally a cm or so above the anus and it was ruled benign in both cases.
