Gluten free - when did you see results?

As a result of urine analysis we have started a Gluten Free diet for our son. He is 2 yrs 9 mths old. He has now been on the diet for 3 weeks. He has a borderline dx or SLI
What is the earliest that we could see an improvement in behavior and when is it most likely that we would see an improvement if there is going to be one? From reading previous posts it seems that there may be a worsening in behavior during the first 7 - 21 days as a result of withdrawl sypmtoms. We have definitely not seen a worsening in behavior and if anything he may even be slightly happier.

We were planning to try the diet for 3months. Would this be long enough for it to have an effect in a child this age or should we do it for a bit longer? Also once we stop the diet how long after reintroducing gluten would we see an effect if there is going to be one?

within the first few days we saw a difference - DEVIL CHILD!!!!

Ours had the same test (sunderland university) and as a result went gluten free. We had a pretty rough time of it at first

It did take a few weeks/couple of months to really see a difference, at first it was small, we'd wonder if we were imagining things because we were hoping for/expecting change, iyswim.

Few months down the line ds2 started TALKING!!!! Proper talking, not just the echolalia that had made up most of what little speech he had!

They are calmer, fewer bowel problems - although ds1 still suffers considerably, listen more....

Best thing we ever did.

  • and the most bloody EXPENSIVE!! (Although we get bread, pizza bases, crispbread, flour etc etc on prescription for them. Worth taking the results to your gp if you haven't already, and asking for the items to be available to your son on prescription.)

Can't answer from experience as we have not tried any sort of diet for ds. But i've just watched a lecture from Temple Grandin and she said about diet that you should give it a go for 3 months if within 3 months there is no noticable improvements then the diet isn't working.
Good luck anyway.
